I took this pic while cleaning out some ash last week. Another Oslo owner and I were talking about the grates in our stoves when I told him mine had a serious arch to it. If you look close to the pic you can see the arched shape towards the front of the stove. Question is, I don't think it's supposed to be arched. The fella I was chatting with said his was flat. I told him I have had this since I got the stove new. Are there any other Oslo owners, or former owners, that remember what kind of grate they had?
G good try, but no. The grate was like this from day 1. Came from the shop to the house with this arched grate.
I'd have to look on the home PC for other pics, none on my cell with me. I'm starting to wonder, bc this stove I bought was a floor model, if the grate was taken from it and this arched one was its replacement.
I have never seen an ash grate that was intentionally arched like that. Every time I have, it was because the owner used the ash pan door during to get the fire going (which was why I assumed that).
This was my thought, since you got a floor model. Does it seem to affect the burn......I guess you wouldn't know unless you'd burned with a flat one.
I'll trump this one more time. The floor model I got was not used in the showroom. It came to us all pretty and clean. Only thing being, I can't say I ever remember the grate being flat, it was always arched. Makes me wonder why I got an arched one and not flat.
I might just place an order to get the correct grate, this grate I have now is so tall that I probably lose some cubic footage because of it.
I don't think I get a bad burn but more along the way of being able to fill the firebox to it's fullest capacity, a longer burn and maybe some more heat. The arched grate is a couples inches high in the center so when the splits are placed the two ends are hanging in the air, wasted space that could be made more solid with a flat grate. If you look at the pic again you can kinda see what I mean
