Ok, trying to get this posting pics down. These are some pics from a couple trees that were cut up a couple years ago.
You look slightly less than enthusiastic about the work ahead. By my calcs, one of those rounds would be about a year's worth of firewood. Git 'er dun. As zap says, GIBIR.
I was way more enthusiastic before the cutting and loading started! By my calculations each round weighed a tad over 20#s LOL!
I know the feeling. When I'm out in the woods, it's all gung ho while cutting the trees up.....then I realize I still need to get the rounds to the vehicle of the moment, and get it all home, then all the rest of the work that needs done. All that, so it can lounge in the sun and wind for at least a couple years.
That was cut in 2012 I believe. It got burned this winter. I look at that as revenge for the headache of pin oak! I didn't pay attention to the maple. It gets spread out in the stacks of oak and hickory.
I like doing all those things, I just don't like getting the wood from the stump to the staging area. I bought a used 4x4 ATV to make that part of the job easier.
Yes, a 4 x 4 makes it a lot easier along with a good trailer. If you have to cut into log length, it is simple to build a dray for skidding them.
I can sort of relate to this. Last several years I have had lots of fun cutting and hauling home but then I can't seem to get it all split and stacked before the warm weather sets in. At least this year I don't have any stuff like maple that doesn't fair well in the round.....most everything is ash, red oak and black locust.
Holy smokes, that's a big mama tree! I'd attack it with my 'lil Poulan 110 wearing a 12" bar ( poor thing would collapse of fright, heheh). Good pictures Iceman.
