A week or so ago I was over at wishlist's place and we found a live ash tree. Beautiful. This afternoon my wife and I went for a walk and I told her about some wood I had cut but we never got it out last winter. She did not know it because I worked alone that day. So, we walked in so she could see what was there. When coming back out, WHOA! What is this? An ash tree about 12" diameter and it is alive and well. Then I remembered that I had found one last summer too so we went to see if that was still alive. Bingo! It is!

So we have at least 2 ash trees that have not been killed by the EAB. Thank you Lord!

Just posted how ours are now dead. We had a couple 80 footers that started to show signs last year, now one has approx. 30 leaves and the other has 0. Whole top is wood-peckered every where.

I drove past a swamp today that looked like it was all ash...and not doing well. I'll have to check on it again in a week or so since the ash is a little slower with the green leave things.

We've got plenty that are doing well, even ones at the edge of my parents lot that don't get the Bayer treatment like I give my yard ashes.

I've never seen a live EAB beetle yet. I personally think the cold winters we've had the last couple of years have done a number on EAB's, and there's that study done to show that they can't take super cold winters. The ash may be fighting back too.

Not sure about that as we've had several nights of -20 or lower. The little buggers are still here.

Dennis , I was glad to hear about your ash trees.

I'm still amazed at the tree we found alive and doing well. Dennis will confirm this but this wood lot that I'm cutting in looks like ground zero for the EAB. If I can figure out how to do a Google Earth snapshot I'll post it. Amazing all the dead ash but how in the world did this one make it thru?

Don't worry they will die sooner or later, it's only a matter of time. The smaller ones make it longer than the bigger ones. I still have a bunch of small ones hanging on and hundreds of young trees, once they get bigger I expect them to all be dead. :(

Research has shown the cold will kill them but inside the tree they're protected/insulated a bit. It may slow them down some but that little bug will recover and finish what it's started. It's a nasty little bug.........
