    You get different colors?

Starting tomorrow, yep. Wanted to use the hardwood in advance to make sure I wasn't overestimating its dryness.

Good idea. High temps are supposed to reach 32 tomorrow here. So far we're having a real winter and it hasn't started yet.

    My "softwood" is spruce
    My Hardwood is birch

They call cottonwood & aspen hardwood , but less BTUs than spruce
So not much effort gathering it.

You're in the area with the multiple great hardwood varieties
Jealousy from here, oh for some hickory or white oak :)

I know I do not have any birch. I can tell when it's pine, just not which pine.

My hardwood is oak, ash, and osage.

Right now the stoves are full of oak and ash. I stuffed the 30 and then I wondered why I stuffed the damm thing since it isn't getting that cold tonight.

    Oh well.

Got some cold overnights coming this way too. I am going to bring in some old barkless locust tonight.

I'm still burning soft box elder. Getting 6-8 hours out of it but I def need to get some of my mulberry and ash over to the new place. It will be interesting to see how it burns in the new stove at the new place! :fire:

Right where I want to be.
Switched from Maple to Oak about 3 weeks ago,....I think.
Back to using some more Maple during the day that I put up last Oct.- Nov., and it's got a little sizzle thing goin' on.
The Oak is definitely gooder than the rest.

Cherry has been my wood since mid October. I have just a bit left and have been burning cherry mixed with Ash this last week. Ash will be most of Jan. then I will transition to Beech.

Next year is three year seasoned White Oak. I will burn some lighter wood in the shoulder season though.

I have about 2 cord of white and another 3 of red in a pile that will be 3 year seasoned next year. I have burnt some red oak a few times (of course it wasn't dried as long as I now know it should be) but have never burnt much white. It should be a warm house next winter. Along with that I always have some of that shoulder season stuff (locust that is)

The 30 is roaring. e/w load and it's rockin' out in the 700-750 range. Stove room with the 30 is at 81. Defiant room is at 78. Defiant is hanging out at about 500. I'm not running the third tonight to see how the house reacts. Tomorrow and Thursday will probably be a three stove night. Especially Thursday since lows will be single digits.

Well, it's currently 13 out and the house is drastically different from years past. Kitchen and mastered bedroom are cool. But, they are maintaining temps in the low 60s with only two stoves going. Huge improvement. Especially the master bedroom. With temps in the teens, the bedroom would normally be about 55 without the third stove. It would be even colder come morning when the stoves weren't as hot.

The master bedroom will still be in the low 60s when I wake up.

Now, this is just the first day of cold. Sustained temps like this will probably change how the house reacts. Still, this is a lot better then before.
