    Pulled the trigger and equipped the poulan 5020av with new bar and chisel chain. Holy crap. Its a real chain saw now. Thats all I got to say about that!

    Yep, I have found it helps. I use the standard bar (at least until it wears out), but "upgraded" the chain.

    Sharp chain of any type beats dull - full chisel, semi chisel, square/round filed, skip/no skip, etc...

    Agreed. But a sharp chisel eats wood better than a sharp "vanguard."

    I still remember when I got away from box store chain & started buying full chisel chain
    at the saw shop. (Oregon LGX)
    WOW what a big improvement.

    Since most of the wood I cut is clean, full chisel is what most of my saws run. I do have one with a 17" hard nose bar & semi-chisel chain for dirty work.
