I picked up a couple dozen heavy-duty plastic pallets with the intention of stacking and seasoning on them. I have forks for my tractor so my intent is to be able to move them as a pallet until it's time to burn. My first experiment resulted in firewood all over the ground because tractor hydraulics are anything but smooth. I need to bundle it together or strap down to the pallet somehow. I don't want it falling apart in the weather. I'm willing to spend a little money but obviously cheap and simple are the best. Lend me your knowledge!
I need to be able to move my wood from my processing area to storage then usage areas. I get hogwire fencing from Menards & make these durable pallets. Really saves me a lot of restacking. Each "fence" from Menards makes 1 & 1/3 pallets.
Interesting. I considered wrapping around the sides with the orange plastic mesh "snow fence" material. If that would work maybe I can get some no longer needed from a construction site.
Deacon, I have intentions of copying your design with your permission, imitation is the sincerest format of flattery! challenge I do not have a Menard so your hog fence I cannot find. I can get sheep and goat from TCS 4 inch holes heavier 10 gauge top and bottom wire would that work. Also a farmers coop up road but they say 17 different types of hog fence.. so do you know gauge of wire or size square holes thanks?
The wire fence seems to be a good way to go. Buy a roll of concrete reinforcement wire, reasonably priced & tough. should get several pallets out of one roll. Cut/bend to fit 3 sides, stack full, slide a couple slats on the front/fork side, good air circulation.
I stole/ modified/ improved these pallet ideas from a buddy. I will try to remember to measure for you tomorrow. Wire is stiff but can be bent by hand.
Great ideas here, a business next door always has a stack of wood pallets. I still have a lead on the 300 gallon tote frames for $15 each.
