Before I could get started I had to wait for 3 deer to leave. Only got 2 in this picture but the one was right near the split pile (just to the right) and she was in no hurry to leave. Yesterday they (4) were really close to me while I was splitting. Barely took notice of me as they were more interested in eating. I've been at this for a while just off and on. Still can't do much at one time but I'd like to finish and get it stacked before heading in for surgery. This is what is left as I took this picture just before heading to the house. When this is done, we have a bit of pine to do. If it gets done, good. If not, okay.
Even the deer are curious as why the splitter is pointing up! Take is easy Dennis, looks like later in the week cooler temps. I think I spy some maple in those splits?
I need that wheel deal though-tired of hooking the splitter to the ATV to move 60 yds to the wood shed---big flaw in the Cub Cadet design for the stand-hassle I say, just a hassle...Its not the weight, just the foul position it takes-they should hire me as a consultant... Horkn Can you put in a word for me ole buddy?
Looks great from here Bet it looks & feels even better there ! Nice day to be outside doing what you love . Any guesses as to how much it'll be, all split & stacked ? Near a years supply ? I guess 3 cord. Have to be a mild winter .
Good eye! That small stack of rounds is all maple. There was some in the splitting pile too. The splitter is like the tree; it points up.
I'll know when it is stacked but guess there should be a year's worth there. If not, it has to be close. I thought we'd be less than 3 cord this winter but the spring has brought so much burning that we have definitely gone over 3 cord. Not as much as a year ago though.
Nice that even in a bad year you can still get a years supply CSS'd. Got it down to an efficient operation . & no doubt "vertical splitting" is one of the key factors for your efficiency !
Right on Dave. And another benefit to being on the 3 year plan. We don't have much to give away at this point but hopefully next year we can cut lots more.
