And of course everything you just described is what I envy. We are 30 mins from Boston, suburban America! Our town has all the services and curbside trash pickup, sewer and town water.... No wonder we pay.
2600 for a small city lot in good school district , snow removal stinks we only got plowed out 4 times last year.
Yeah, no wonder. I don't have any of that stuff and that stuff costs money. No offense, but I could put up with all the taxes better than all the people, that come with the convenience. To be honest I don't want for or need that stuff. Luckily for all of us, its a big free country and we can live anywhere we want/can afford to. I'm sure glad lots of people don't want to live where I am, or I'd have to move.
The company I worked for at the time did the structural engineering for Elyria High School...That place is fancy!!
4k a year. Property/school taxes combined. 1300sq ft converted bungalow (paid $195k 6 years ago) with attached 800 sq ft garage. Sits on 1 acre in a low-end neighborhood on a PRIVATE ROAD. No municipal services of any kind, hell, the mail doesn't even deliver to my front yard. VFD, small town less than 10 minutes away with basic shopping needs. I pay for curbside trash removal ($35/mo) and $300 a year for road maintenance. 20 min drive to work unless I can't leave early enough in which case the nine million school busses that I paid for make it a 45 minute exercise in anger management as they stop at each individual driveway along their route. I should note that the above is very cheap for the area that I live in. If I move five miles in just about any direction. My taxes would double on the same property. I'm also paying outrageous NYS registration fees every two years on all three vehicles, even the 25 year old beater truck. Same $$ as my 2013 daily driver. 8.125% sales tax on everything except groceries and let's not forget that NYS collects income tax annually as well. Think of me next time that "ridiculous" $2k/yr tax bill rolls in.
... "nine million school busses that I paid for make it a 45 minute exercise in anger management as they stop at each individual driveway along their route." ...
My Daughter goes to Midview, But yes Elyria High School is awesome, my Niece is graduating this year Elyria High
this is getting so ridiculous. I walked at least 1/4 mile to my stop. probably 1/2 mile for three years of high school. there were a couple that were closer to 3/4 mile at my stop. Now they stop at every driveway. Whats next ? The driver goes in and gets the kids out of bed and gets them their cereal too? Guess we'll have to raise the taxes for that service also...
Luckily our bus drivers don't mess around, and don't let the kids poke around either. They are on salary and if 1 min is wasted per kid, that's another hour they are working, for free. Side note: I know a guy who's wife drives. . I've asked him, why didn't MY bus driver look like that . We had old, bald, fat guys that were mean as he11.
"We had old, bald, fat guys that were mean as he11. " ... Hehehe... Not our high school. We had 5 seniors driving (terrorizing) the kids to school... and I was one of em... I was, however, considered mean as h*ll...
I walked 1 mile, it was up hill both ways & into the wind rain & snow ! 1st guy don't stand a chance.
Here it's 1.15% of home value. Varies by county. No state taxes on property, no state sales tax or income tax. (local sales tax 2.5% up to $15 max) (State has licenses & registration fees of vehicles, snow machines , boats, trailers atvs ) Add federal gasoline tax of 18.4¢ + Then State gasoline taxes + other hidden gasoline taxes. (11.3¢ for Alaska taxes & fees) Our roads, bridges & highways should all be in flawless condition. ( Example: PA has a total of 70¢ on every gallon of gasoline sold in state. AK has 29.7¢ total) ) http://www.api.org/oil-and-natural-gas-overview/industry-economics/fuel-taxes/gasoline-tax
I have <1/30 the land of fox9988 and pay over 10x in property tax on my house and lot alone. And close to 8% sales tax and income tax. Welcome to NJ. At least there is no tax on cars in this state.
No state sales tax or income tax is a huge benefit! We have almost 7% state income tax and another 2% county income tax for a total of 9% state income tax for the luxury of leaving in Ohio. Ohhhh... And sales tax on purchases is around 8% depending on county.
