Ok, so I got on the laptop this morning. And its still logged into the kid account (weird). So I got curious and went into the history. Well there was no history for the last couple of days, but Saturday there was. One of the issues that I saw and quickly googled was "search.myway" . Just looking at the first page of results indicates a virus/malware... :headbang:I'm running Norton right now. And locking his account out, till we have a little discussion. Any information? I did take a couple of photos of that block of history, if someone wants to PM with next steps... Thank you...:picard:

At a glance it doesn't seem to be a nasty virus. Looks like a program that redirects and sets your homepage. IMO Norton's is a virus itself and anytime I get a new pc, I try to remove all things Norton or Mcafee. I use Avast and once in a while run a cleaner or two, like Ccleaner or junkware removal tool.

What you have is adware. Norky is correct-- Norton and McAffee are pretty much virii in their own right these days. See if you can find a removal guide or search.myway. My bigger concern is that he has been deleting his browser history...

Yea, trying to keep up with his knowledge and skill level... Mine is good enough to keep me in and out of trouble.... But I'm not sure what's going on with the history. I'm pretty sure he hasn't been deleting, I do check periodically. But I do know that he was the last one on it since I was on it yesterday morning. So I'll have to have a discussion....

I'll see if I can get a cleaner for the adware.... Thank you!

Ideally you won't be installing more software-- so many adware removers are worse than the adware you already have. Look for a set of removal instructions.

    Good call Grizz.
History (and other things) can be set to auto delete when exiting the browser, so check that.

It's been a while, but I think junkware removal tool can be run from a thumb drive. Might need to download it on another pc though.

The real concern is getting a legit removal tool and not just more malware.

Prolly cleared the history because he was researching and ordering your father's day gift. At least that's what I would say.

I've had good luck running a combination of AVG (antivirus) and Malwarebytes (anti- malware).

I always go to the software suppliers site to download and install them. Huge problem as said with separate installers of software that are malware or adware themselves.

    Both have free versions.

I too have malwarebytes and have had excellent results with it.

On the other hand, I do now have Norton and have had it for 4 years with no problems. Many moons ago I was disgusted with it and also McAfee and went with AVG. Then I started having problems with that. Someone advised me to go with Avast and that was a nightmare but in the end I did get my money back. Been with Norton ever since and as stated, no problems. No doubt sooner or later another change will be needed though.

The main issue I have with Norton is it setting itself as a proxy server, which works ok until it suddenly breaks forever. Probably had over 100 house calls where that was the problem.

Me too...I got Norton because of the ease of it for mom and dad. AVG and the other free one kept popping up the little blocks. It would frustrate dad. Which in turn was just a pain for me.

But the good news is I finally got back on the net. Google Chrome didn't like someone or something... Had to uninstall and reinstall, but it looked like it was all working this morn. Thanks to all!

I wanted to try Google Chrome but can not get it installed. Google won't accept a password or email address for some odd reason.

Dennis, I had to use a .gmail.com address to install my google chrome, and I really like it.
