    neighbor Rodney told me one time to slice off around edges of elm, split thinner pieces around the edge first....some times it works, some times it don't.

    elm is nasty stuff

    When I get some like that they either get kissed by the chainsaw or fed to my big bandsaw

    If you noodle the elm rounds into 5-6" slabs, the slabs will split fairly easy with a lot less strings. I took down a 43" elm & make the slabs so my wife & daughter could handle splitting them. My daughter said, to make them all that way, they split a lot easier!

    yeah this x2, that spiral tells me bonfire... I am German heritage too.. I have done it with similar mall and wedge and sledge. made more kindling than firewood!
