Full range report: Weather: Rainy and very muddy Target: $5 cardboard, soggy Sights: Not even close, but better after adjustment. Still not good. Training: Instructor's grip advice at last class caused injury to off hand. Issue: Instructed to have right thumb above left, but this doesn't seem to be right for left handed shooters. Damage: Thumb struck by slide and split open in two places. Later bled through bandaging whilst adjusting sights and covered trigger and slide in blood. Lesson: Always double check when being taught by right handed instructors. New Skill: Can now clean blood out of a gun.
Awww heck no! Seriously??! That sucks, hope it doesn't dissuade you from shooting that thing, it's a fine pistol. Are you left eye or right eye dominant? I've got a friend that's left-handed, but right eye dominant. It screwed with him in the beginning but he adjusted nicely. Edit- His advice about thumb placement is valid, for right handed shooters. Reverse that if a lefty. Orrrrrr.... Buy another one. One left, one right, no problem.
Yeah, it sucks but doesn't mean I'm going to stop shooting it. Funny thing is I didn't feel a thing, not even later. It split pretty deep and I had to glue it back together but I've got no pain so that's a plus. I am left hand and eye dominant.
Those slides travel pretty fast, probably just feel numb. Next time out, reverse the grip for a left thumb/ high. You'll get the feel for it after a few dry runs. Just make sure it's comfortable....and... "cup it". "Cup it"- I had a guy in my shop who taught me a few things. Mid-90's and we had an IPSC shoot at the local range. Guy came in with a minor extractor issue, got that squared away, then ended up going through grip profiles and stances (competition stuff) . I'm right handed. Right hand on a 1911, enough purchase so your trigger finger is front digit only on the trigger- no more than that. Left hand "cups" the frame and pulls it into your right hand. Thumb position may vary, depending on hand size, pistol size. Just keep them out of the way of the slide. I tried that grip and it worked, but it took some getting used to. It's now pretty natural to me because I remember what he showed me. Good guy. His nickname was -"The Jet", #1 in the world in IPSC shooting at the time. edit- I re-read this, it's not descriptive enough but it won't likely ever will be. Has to be shown in person, the grip change is too subtle. Shooting D/A compounds the issue, but it's still valid. JB
The first time I let me wife shoot a semi auto hand gun I caught her putting both thumbs directly behind the slide. Luckily it wasn't loaded, I just wanted to see how she wanted to hold the gun. I still have to remind her not to do that every time we shoot. Maybe one of these days I should just let the slide bite her, I bet she'd remember then! OK, I'll never do that. I'd be in the doghouse for weeks.
when i was young and stupid i thought i could hold the bolt back with my thumb on a ruger mk2 , well i couldnt it hurt and the lesson was learned over 30 years ago and still remember it.
I ordered the new Glock 43 today. Looked at the Ruger LC9S and the XD-S but I think the 43 will be a good gun.
I am late to the table this one looks good!!! I have all bit a .32. The .380 is a straight walled case and 2mm shorter case than 9 and thus gives up case capacity and energy. They can shoot the same weight bullets but 9 is usually heavier weight bullet
I think I will buy my step dads I am curious to thoughts on this gun. I knew you would be buying more guns once you started

Mostly I'm the saw room on older threads and a few new ones. Son is older now and in everything. More hands and eyes on so I dont have as mich time. Busy at work so not as mich time there and been into all my tv shows at night.
Haven't heard of an SR9c pro. You may be thinking of the The LC9s® Pro model has no external manual safety or magazine disconnect.
No I was thinking of the SRC the small 9mm single stack carry gun. Not the small .380 whack I know doesnt have one. Either. There is TWO models. Sr9c and the pro version. The normal one has the two safeties. The LCP is almost just like the Taurus TCP that I carry except the taurus has a last round hold open feature of the slide.
