    He, he.

Thankfully, I haven't had to use the solder iron this year.

We have a beautiful Christmas tree farm right across from our house. It's a young Finnish family that farms it, on the property of the elderly widow of the farmer that lived there for years 80+years. I used to play cribbage with him and listen to RedSox games on this ancient RCA Victor multi-band tube radio console. (that still works!)

...anyway, it's $20 for a tree you pick it and tag it prior to Christmas at anytime, and he cuts it and helps you load it if you need help. That's the best deal around these parts. Since I live across the street I hear the laughter and playing of the children as they go with their parents to pick out the tree. When I stack wood I play my jazz Cds, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, etc. ,on my boom box. I guess the music carries over to them next door and the young man that runs the tree farm commented to me that people say they love the music he plays. He told them it's the neighbor (me), and they said, well your neighbor's got great taste in music. :)

We always buy our tree there, but since the kids are now in their early 30s, we only buy smaller trees. I put it up one weekend before Christmas and take it down day after New Years. I don't burn the living room Fireview during that time, only the Resolute downstairs.

When I'm out stacking, I need some background music to keep me going.

You lost me on that one, so I guess the answer is no. :tree: It's just a little Mom and Pop Christmas tree farm. 4 or 5 acres and Mom and Dad and a couple of kids.

We got our new Storm Cat generator today!:drunk: NO MORE LOST FOOD :drunk:In your face Mother Nature! :drunk:Woooootttt now we can run the fridges and keep the food cold. We already have a wood stove with a cooktop so no worries about staying warm or eating. We also have a ton of lanterns and candles along with emergency food. Man now I want to loose power and we won't for 5 years because we bought a generator. :emb::whistle:

I could easily be wrong, but I think that gen is one you plug your appliance into (with the right cord ). Doubt is has enough power to put the house on it.

After my mom went without power one Christmas holiday for three days, she invested in a generator. I don't think it has run more than 5 days since and it has been 12 years.

Yes it's the HF 800 watt geny. All we are running is the fridges one at a time with it and charging the phones / ipad.

It's just gonna be plugged in with an extension cord. I don't want a big generator because we don't need one and the fuel usage is superb on this unit.

You can easily run lights, tv, charge a phone and run the internet modem without any issue at all and still not be close to full capacity.

It is also enough to run the furnace by itself with nothing else plugged in if need be but we have the woodstove so we won't be doing that.it runs fantastic and sounds kinda like a little weed whip. It's 2 cycle so no oil to change either which sold me.

Well I had to bring the little guy to the doc this morning. He goes through allergy shots. Luckily he is down to a shot in each arm once every two weeks now. It has helped him and improved his quality of life.

After I take him to school it will be time to head into the woods to cut some more wood.

Pete, I don't want to bust your bubble but what is the total watts of the genny? Your refridge "MAY" exceed the wattage capacity. some fridges kick 1000+ watts on cycle kick on, and about 250 on run. I have a 1000 watt honda, "soley" for a freezer and run my house off my welding machine, 6500 watts. Do a wattage calculation of your needs, don't forget, a simple blow dryer can use 1000+ watts.

Got it.. I had a slightly different need as we also have a artesian well and when we lose power we lose water and the pump is a fairly high powered item. In 09 we lost power for 2 weeks and it was also averaging 0'F so very cold. I had a freezer full of meat, wanted to be able to take a shower and flush the toilet, run the lights and TV if possible. Just didn't need the stove.. as we had a gas grill on the deck, or the heat, (obviously we were okay with that :))

Still in the freezer here, although now we are having a high temp in single digits so we the situation is improving I guess. Got a buddy coming over tomorrow, planning on cooking something Italian but I am not sure what yet. Had pizza last time a spaghetti the time before. I'm open to suggestions.
