I think it's Norway Maple . It's not the largest score in history for me buy every little bit counts! Got it Split and stacked before 9:00 am. Now to cut the lawn before it gets too warm. Cheers!

Yes - every little bit counts! For a lot of us, this is how to get ahead - persistent small scrounges with the rarer big scores that puts you way ahead. Keep at it! Cheers!

Nice looking Maple and couldn't agree with you more. Every little bit helps and it all adds up. I bet you have close to 35 splits there and that would heat my house for almost two days in the middle of winter.

It was a Craigslist score .I saw it last night and got up around 6:30 this morning . A lot of times if you don't get right at it somebody else will snag it.up. BTW there
were about 4 other rounds I had already split and on the ground before I took the time to snap a couple of pics.Cuz like ya'll say if there are no pictures it never happened.
I have about a cord ready to go for 2015-16 and I figure I should be ahead of the game by the end of summer.I want to be ready to burn by September. Nuthin' like cold beer warm fire and a good Football game!

Agreed, stick with the softer maples and they should be ready by fall. Dead elm is even better! Cherry can be good too. White ash might be ready but still better if you wait a year on that.

Bogy , yeah it split no problem.
I had maple a few times before and if you get it split early and let the summer heat and wind get to it then it usually cures up by burn season.
I had some cherry and black locust last year and you can't beat either one. Black locust got so hot it will run you outta the room if you aren't careful LOL.
Hopefuly I can get some before summer runs out.I am trying to get with the 3 year plan . Right now I have a mix of elm, maple, mullberry and a little bit of hedgeand some other stuff I thinks is red oak that was being thrown away at the township brush recycling pile . Grabbed as much as I could that wasn't punky before somebody said something.Well like everybody here I shall remain persistant .

I tapped some Norways this year during sugaring season. I was pleasantly suprised at the sap volume and sugar content
. I did feel like I was drilling a hole in an ash tree tho, the bark is very similar ! Lol

vw, a Norway maple is uncommon here unless planted.. sugar maple and black have 5 point with deep cuts Norway and softer maples tend to have 5 point but the cuts between points are not deep.

I've been watching for a maple score for a while! Not as common as I would like in my area... Nice score!

Yeah not bad shtuff. Not as soft as silver maple but still manageable for splitting with a wedge and sledge.

If you can get some it's close to primo IMHO .Splits fairly easily ,seasons pretty good and puts out decent BTU's.
