Well, here in the upper midwest the Lilac bushes bloomed yesterday. So, that means morel mushroom hunting tomorrow. It is suppose to be sunny and in the 70's today, that will give the morels some warmth to go. I will post if I find some?
found a few here in central pa. The last ones I found got eaten before I could get a picture of them.

Morel season was short lived, and not good here is SE Iowa this year. Had the moisture, but ground temps just wouldn't get out of the upper 40's until last week. Took my wife and little guy out yesterday and found enough for two batches in the fryer. Here is the little guy with his first ever find...
Farmhand, PRICELESS. I walked my spots and nothing yet. I think we got a good shower tonight. Now we need some warmth. I am going to check again Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
Minnesota Marty, Never heard about lilacs as a signal- guess that means too late for me, cause our blooms are way done in our front yard....
Eric, Well at least here in the upper Midwest the lilacs are the indicator. But, I went out yesterday looking and I came up empty. I am going out Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
Lilacs and Dandelions are a good indication here, but they can bloom with low soil temps. If you get Lilacs and Dandelions blooming, rain, and soil temps in the upper 50's makes for for an awesome Morel season! It's been a few years since we have had such a season. Thanks Eric VW & Minnesota Marty loving every second seeing the little guys learning, and him teaching me. It wasn't all about the mushrooms at one point he stopped and looked at a tree then says "daddy you get your saw, you cut this tree for fire woods" Firewood Hoarder in training... He has a good eye, it was a Cherry tree he was talking about!
