What were your carb settings. Was it muffler modded? My 45 was not running right so I rebuilt the carb after blocking both lines for the per bulb. Could not get it to run with screw set at 1 turn out each. So I just started messing with it. I seem to be at something like 3 turns out on each one and am pretty close to tune!!! Not sure what it was before I did not mess with them. Even with the muffler modd it was fat enough. And when it started running bad I just went to turning and never seated then counting them :-( I am worried the things will vibrate out!
Nope its still not right. Go to put it in wood and it has no power. This carburetor is killing me!!! I have no clue what is going on? Took it back apart. Diaphragm looks right, is in the correct direction. Needle moves freely. Nothing in the L passage ways? Replaced fuel filter...I am at a loss. Ideas?
clemsonfor, I had a Husky doing the same thing. Drove me nuts. I put 2 rebuild kits in it and ran it through the us washer. Finally took it to a tree service buddy of mine's full time mechanic. He messed with it too. Said sometimes you just have to pony up and get a new carb. I did and it started on the second pull and ran great from then on. At some point I am going to remove the Welch plugs and see if I can figure it out just out of curiosity.
I was honestly thinking of buying a carb. But its a $50 saw..do I want to be in it for a carb??? I probably will buy one?? Oh I also pulled the muffler and plug to look to see if some reason it was scored or scratched?? Looked fine with factory machine marks on the cyl and a shiney piston.
Take a pressure pump and stick it on the fuel line where the filter goes. Pump it up to around 8 to 10 psi. It should hold and not drop. This will tell you if the fuel line up to the needle and seat is good and holding. Also have you pressure checked the crankcase. It does sound like your having a lean condition.
Also double check the order of the metering diaphragm and the pump diaphragm. They are opposite from one another.
I believe the diaohrams are correct. They are installed as the ones came out. I dont have a pressure tester. I guess time to get the loaned tool from advance again. I am debating parting this thing out for real. It. Was a play saw that I got for like $40, at this point I am not playing :-(
Pressure/vacuum test time ......... Turning out the needles that far to me means its time to test the saw If the test passes then I would second a new carb. I have had to replace carbs on several occasions after rebuilds didn't work that passed the P/V test
I was also thinking that maybe there was an air leak in the fuel line and would of replaced it..just did not have the time nor did I look to see if I had some fuel line that size around. I am thinking thats a good bet. That was the only thing I could think of...glad to know others are thinking like I was. Makes me feel like I am the right track at least. Thanks.
Ok so I bought a new chinese carb off ebay. $6shipped and finally got a chance to put it on. Ive had it a few weeks. All is well. A bit rich but no issues.
Do you have a link for the chinese carb on ebay for $6? I have an Earthquake 45 and it is doing the same thing. It worked great cutting up a large Hickory tree that fell and a month or two later, it ran like crap. No power. Like you, I don't want to spend alot on this saw but if I could get a cheap carb, that would be great.
All you have to search is chinese 45cc carburetor. Here is the item number for the one I bought. There the same on all chinese saws. It doesnt have the return line so you need to cap off your primer bulb lines. But thats no big deal as mine was leaking anyway and I had already done away with it. Ebay item number.261834353420 Put that in the search block
It looks like there right at $10 buy it now with free ship. I just waited a day or two on an auction and was the only/high bidder at $5.99 with free ship. Took about 2-3 weeks to get here if I remember right. There are several sellers who sell them just find the best deal.
Thanks for the info. I've never replaced a carb on a chainsaw before but first time for everything. I'm looking forward to getting the Quake 45 working again. It was a pleasure to use when it was running right. cw
This saw is a bit more complicated than say my stihl but is still straight forward. The biggest pain is getting the top plastic back lined up and on.
