Tis all about money. I'll never forget the time I picked up a copy of Sports Illustrated. I had been getting disgusted with all the BS about how much money a player is making. Then SI came out with a magazine and the entire magazine (excepting the stupid advertising) was all about how much money players were making and what the top dollar was (multi-million). Nothing about the sport itself; only about the dollars. That day I lost most of my interest in baseball, football, basketball, etc. Not much has changed since.
as a kid thru high school $2.00 a seat bruins, celts, and sox. never failed to go in on game day and get good seats. the players all had second jobs in the off season or played a second sport. as late as 1990 I shared sox season seats at $10.00 for the first row grandstand behind home plate. times do change.
