Within 10 minutes Sat, to start this weekends hoarding, I lost both boots to the soles letting go-They are my snake boots, not real good, but not real cheap either-to make matters worse, I had no fix-NO TAPE!!! Lesson learned-It wasnt long though a stranger went through, drove by and turned around as I was loading the first Polar trailer load into my truck---He had tape and the work day was renewed-made a new friend-stopped to see if I minded if he road his ATV across my property-he wont be hunting as he has a camp nearby with 100 acres-I said sure!
Then, as I was getting ready to go back up the mountain, another car pulled in (my place is posted heavily as I have had all kinds of trouble with poaching and trespassing) some old lady driving and the guy gets out and I know him "Just looking to pi**" he says-another doper from the hood-He says "what ya doin, cutting a tree out of the road?" Nah, just cutting firewood---and he says "awful early aint it?" Yeah pal, and Im thinking I should be so much further ahead by now---non-wood psychos just dont understand-Ready for some pics---and there is more to the adventure with an ID question and general info question
All I cut yesterday was ash...and hauled 2 more truck loads of the hickory you guys helped ID and white oak-a gift from a neighbor-all the ash is CSS
As you can see in the first pic-trouble loomed with the itchies...is that poison oak or sumac? Question is, is that stuff "live yet" and are the tentacles that attach to the tree what causes the rash or the vine itself? I used the T-wrench to pry it off every piece-I stripped by hand what would peel off but that crap was glued...so far so good-I didnt touch my face, used hand santizer between runs down and havent noticed anything yet---It did slow me down some though
TurboDiesel funny thing is Im not allergic to poison ivy-but oak and sumac does hit me pretty good-thank God for hydrocortisone---I scraped it off-its all CSS now and I appear no worse for wear-I'd like to salvage the boots-have some Super Glue Gel and tape-
Woodrat1276 If you have a Tractor Supply nearby, I think 639. I do not so Lowes was 679. with free ship to store-the rails and 2" ball converter are extra as well-I got both from Amazon, damaged packaging, same as new for a little help with costs-I gave 20. for the hitch, 70. for the rails-it increases the hauling capacity from 20 to like 35 sq ft.-All told-it will haul 150-175 splits, 1500 lb capacity-its tough and the floating tandem axle is worth it--has a couple zerc fittings too but the bearings are sealed-I talked to the company, they say fail rate is practically zero-its 2 months old and I love it---time will tell-It is a bit pricey but seems durable and it goes over everything with the walking axle and will not rust-its what I needed to get wood out as my haul roads are not the best-I have unlimited wood but no options to get out
Thats all the ash from the weekend-the free hoard will be stacked on pallets on up the bottom for '17-18' wood, hickory and white oak-next to the shed is more ash, beech and maple-
Those vines are dead and harmless from what I can tell. Though in my area oak and sumac are trees not vines, and poison ivy is a vine. I can't get within 5 feet of one without getting a rash so I avoid it all together. But from what I know the leaves excrete the oil that causes the rash so as long as there isn't any leaves you'll be good.
