While on my way to cut up a downed cherry tree, i spied a dead ash out of the corner of my eye. You know I can't resist that ash! After cutting and splitting it, my son came out to help me load it. He slipped and fell down hard! His head landed less than a foot from a large jagged rock. After a rest he decided to give it another go. Then he stepped on a rusty nail that was sticking up through an old board. It went right through his shoe and into his foot. At this point, we decided to call it a day. He is okay, but it was a rough day. I hope everyone is safe this weekend.
Sounds rough. We can be thankful he didn't combine the first run in with the second and put his head into the nail. Check on his tetanus shot status please.
I thought that too, Paul bunion, but I shortened it to "worser possibilities" cause the thought of a combined one-two punch made me queasy!
Crazy coincidence, my son-in-law on Maui stepped on a nail today. Drove a piece of flip-flop as well as the nail into his heel. Ouch. x 10 on the tetanus, although he is likely fine re DPT shots. But check with the pediatrician if you have not yet. And I'm sure you super-cleaned the area as well. Hope all the bad luck for the season occurred today, and you can enjoy the rest of the Spring with your son.
+3 on the tetanus shot being up to date. Bummer though. Better to stop with the 2 strikes on you Will be lots of time to get the wood in, All kinds of way to get injured out there , be safe ! Keep us updated on the recovery
Well that sucks but it's a good thing his head missed the rock. I haven't stepped on a nail in a long long time it hurts like a beatch
Thanks everyone. He is doing great. Shots are up to date. The nail definately punctured skin but didn't penetrate too deep. We cleaned with hydrogen peroxide and he is walking just fine. He's a little scratched up, but that's pretty normal for an eleven year old boy. Kids always amaze me how quickly they bounce back. He's already looking forward to baseball practice today.
Good to hear he is doing well. They are super resilliant little things. I think i was twice as tough when i was a kid.
Stepping on a nail is tough, hurts like a son-of-a-gun. Another thing the story reminders all of us is the next time we visit the doc. Check to see if the tetanus shot is up to date. The shot is a walk in the park compared to the infection that develops if you don't have one. And we all know the cuts, scrapes we get from C/S/S. Hope the young lad is doing well this morning.
