I never see it mentioned here but its not much of a firewood tree. Usually small and scrubby. As you can see in the first pic easy to ID, can't mis it.
I'm in the range but haven't seen it yet, just Slippery Elm, which is decent firewood, better than Cherry for BTU. They don't generally get too big before dutch elm disease gets 'em. Probably the same case with the Winged?
I'm in the Dutch Elm Disease area on maps but I'm not aware of it in the area. American Elms get huge here, never just die off that I know of. The biggest wined elm I've seen is around 12" DBH. They're just squat and bushy around here, nuisance trees. But not diseased that I know of.
I'm not sure that DED is what kills the Red Elms here, just assumed, but I see there are some other diseases that can kill them. I've seen a couple that got pretty big. I've got a 19" that just fell a few months back. But most of the dead ones don't get much over 8-10". We've been grabbing a slew of 'em behind my BIL's house, trying to rebuild his stacks for this fall. We find many with no bark that have been lying out there for years, but hold up well with hardly any punk.
