4 hours chipping ice off the drive way.
Went out to shovel the plow truck berm at the end,
being warm, the ice chipped off when shoveling.
So I chipped up what would come off, if it stays warm
might be able to get more tomorrow.

    34° now, fog, mist

I usually think things built many years ago are the soundest construction and with solid materials. That's why they last so many years. Glad you got your steps fixed. Often one of the items most neglected and left in disrepair. I used to have a job where I saw clients in their homes. I went to homes with stairs without rails, rotten steps, rotten platforms, cluttered, and those that would shift around as you walked up or down them. It wouldn't cost a whole lot to make them safe. Hard to figure out.

Unforseens are a killer in construction. You never know what you will find when you open something up.

Ahhh. A few days off now. Time to spend a little down time with the family and mix in a little wood cutting here and there. I also really need to clean my garage. Never did do that the last time I mentioned it. I wonder if the old Ford PowerMaster will pull that big Ash log out if I wrap a chain around one end and lift it up with the 3 point hitch. I may have to try that today or tomorrow. Maybe a short nail or screw to keep the chain from slipping off.

I'll be cleaning the main drain line on my house today. It decided it wanted to back up last night and proceed to flood the basement. We were out back having a fire or i would've caught it earlier. Funnn day ahead!!

Dam. Sorry to hear that Pine! That's way worse than my pellet stove not working at the camp this morning. E-2 error. Time to figure that out after breakfast. Hope your clean up and all goes well. Are you in the country? Septic tank and leach field?

Not everything built years ago was the best quality, only the things that were the best are still remaining. Some things were built by unskilled workers and/or were considered "temporary".Castles/cathedrals,,bridges,other structures that I seen in Europe as an example. Some are anywhere from 300 to 1000 years old.Obviously wars & the elements take their toll on them also.

Went out to pick up a few things, came home with a couple of spare GX23 13 watt lights and 3 CREE 60 watt equivalent LED lamps.

The CREEs are already in the lamp, they replace 65 watts of CFLs with 28.5 watts of LEDs, next it is the 4 lamp fixture in the sewing room. I'm on the hunt for some 100 watt equivalent daylight bulbs for that job, currently there is 92 watts of CFLs in that puppy and trying to train the quilter to turn off her lights and sewing machines is a never ending task.

Shooting a Yule log type video. Laid a small round in the back, a small split of box elder in the front all atop a large bed of coals. Just letting the video roll, will mix in music later. Also, about to start piecing together a video of me smoking some turkey legs.

Those Cree bulbs are really good. All my outside lights are converted. Now my quest is to have them in anything inside with a dimmer. The on off lights are the CFL bulbs. I put one over our dinning table and am very pleased with it. Now they are in the hall and bathroom lights. I am looking for some with the small end and are tapered to fit in the dimmable sconces over the fireplace but everything I am finding is like $15. each. No savings there.
Have you considered putting that sewing room on a time out motion sensor? Some battles we don't win. Pick them carefully! You don't want to miss out on those pies your wife makes!
