Riding my bike to work today, saw some guys from Arborpro taking down a large ponderosa pine a block away from my house. I stopped and asked what they were going to do with it after it was all down. They guy said sometimes they try to sell it, but they usually just take it and get rid of it as soon as they can. So I asked if i showed up with a pickup, could I take the rounds... The guy said sure, but I'd have to be the one to load it up... ... Anyhow, I grabbed my buddy's little old Toyota and started taking loads down the block... after the second load, they started helping me load it up so they could get done faster... Not a bad deal for a new burner looking to build his wood supply...
Prime time score Get it split & stacked off the ground & top covered soon & it should be ready for this winter's burn season Good looking 1st scrounge !!!
Nice work! The addiction is just beginning! Your ear will soon get tuned to a chainsaw running in the far off distance and you WILL track it down! I love scrounging! Helping others and yourself at the same time.
I'll be starting the splitting tomorrow... Once I figure out where/how I want to stack it all. I may have to build a few racks first though! Maybe move the scooter too...
We're just outside of Spokane. It's a great place! I got around to measuring some of the rounds... the biggest ones are just over 25 inches in diameter (not including the bark). There are a few that are pretty thin so they will be a bit tough to stack, but I'll figure it out. I've got a nice sunny area on the south side of the house where I think I'll be able to stack it up pretty and there's ALWAYS wind here...
Use a few pallets for a back & sides to hold them together. Sun & wind are big considerations to drying wood

I've been working away at the pile a bit after work... I travel on the weekends during this time of year so I don't have a lot of time to css but, here's how I'm doing so far! Here's the work area...
Last year my ponderosa and lodgepole cut/split/stacked by the end of May was good to go by winter. I stacked on pallets, single and double row uncovered. Spokane area climate is good for drying wood. Greg
More work done today. I'm guessing that rack has about a half a cord with all the short splits. I worry it may tip over at some point, but I've got my fingers crossed for now. I got another rack built and I moved those rounds out of the way but ran out of light before I could get a decent picture.
Looking good man! Bet you have a big feeling of accomplishment after that, and a need to keep looking for more scrounges.
