A peer reviewed study published in the journal of Evolutionary Psychology showed that viewing a fire reduces blood pressure. Of course, if you are breathing in the smoke, that can increase blood pressure, as well as harm your lungs. Having a simulated fire on your computer screen can do the trick as well, but it doesn't heat the house very efficiently.

They probably spent oodles of money, wrote countless reports and scheduled lots of meetings to determine that when all they had to do is ask us! :)

Don't know about the BP, but my favorite chair is a swivel rocker that allows me to easily swing around from watching TV to directly watching my wood stove ... and the vast majority of time I spend in it is watching the fire. My son often wonders why I spend so much time gazing into the fire ... now I can tell him it is for health reasons.

Went to the dentist today and my BP was pretty high.
My solution for that is to not go to the dentist. That has consequences though, which makes you need to go to the dentist. The cycle continues.:headbang:
    I need a fire.

I am on the fence, I would like a swivel rocker, but...... Dear Husband will likely get alot more use out of a recliner than I would with a swivel rocker. Floor space is tight in my new home.....

With low blood pressure someone will usually feel cold. They can use a fire to warm up.

I concur that watching an active flame does have a calming effect. It's mesmerizing, watching the flame patterns and growth along the lines of how the wood is placed. My wife is often found in our old rocking chair, reading and watching the fire show, calm and relaxed, enjoying every moment. And then....
I turn back the T-stat, close the by-pass, and wonder when the buzzer will go off, letting me know the clothes are dry. It's a big, black, dark , hot box by then.

    I love my BKK. ;)

edit- yeah.. when it sinks in there is nothing to watch, she gets active. That means I have to also.

I hate my BKK- at times.

In all the years I have gone to a dentist they have never taken my BP. That was weird to see you say that Dave.

They should spend another million or so to see if sitting back and looking at your 3+ years work of wood drying in the stacks does the same thing.
As far as the dentist, just bring a trash can, a couple cinder blocks to sit it on and a few splits to start.

    That would work, right?

I forgot to mention it is also a recliner ... we have two of these in our living room and me and the wife just love them. We both enjoy watching old movies together and with a warm fire going nap time is never far away ... just hit the pause button, recline and get in a good 20 minute snooze ...
