...was running around my eye. Had been feeling as if there was one in my hair, but couldn't find it. Thought I saw something, grabbed at it. Yup. A tick.
I just don't enjoy going in the woods anymore, once the snow is gone. I spent a grand total of about ten minutes in the woods today, once just barely off the road, and once in front of the house toward the lake. Both times gathering firewood. So, may have been on the wood, or have climbed up a leg. Probably came off a piece of wood. Was about to go back out and spend a couple of hours splitting and carrying wood. Not very motivated to do so now. I wish it would rain, and give me a good excuse to avoid the task.
This morning at the gate met the township employee who collects the trash. He told me there was hail an inch in diameter in Forfar this morning. Glad we missed that.
    Calling for snow tomorrow.

I've been expecting the little bastages to show up soon.
Usually the beginning of May through June or so is when they seem to be the worst.
That's about the time I go into hiding.
I've read where they need tallish grass or bushes, but I had one on me a few years ago from walking across the yard about 40' and 1/2 way back before I noticed it on my pant leg. Grass was barely an inch long (weird grass on that side of the house, and I don't mow it very often).
Had one on my back after mowing with the tractor. I had brushed against a couple pines along the drive. They climb things, including us.:headbang:

I was at a Civil War Re-enactment in Delaware, Ohio a few years ago, and we were setting up camp in a wooded area, when one of the guys says look at the ground, It was moving, you could see the ticks covering the ground. :bug: Needless to say we moved out into a Pig pen where it was nothing but Dirt and Mud. We must have smelled pretty bad, because the Pigs and Ticks left us alone! :bug:

Just read that in the North East in particular on LI, we will have the worst spring and summer for ticks in years due to the high volume of snow. The snow apparently blankets them and the survival rate goes way up....

    Careful out there!

Ticks and yellow jackets are my "fun" round here. It's time to start the Sawyer's treatments on everything I wear in the woods. And then, tick checks. That'll thrill grammy...:D

If I see the slightest lack of effectiveness from my Permethrin this year, I'm gettin' some Sawyers. Already sprayed one pair of pants......heavily.:dancer:

I remember years ago my husband came home from a bird hunting on the Colo/KS border. He pulled into the driveway but not the garage. Stepped in, shut the garage door, and proceeded to strip all the way down and make a run for the shower.

I refused to wash those clothes or bring them in the house, Ick!

I get right in the shower after shedding the potentially infected clothing in the basement... I don't have to MAKE my wife assist in the checking:whistle::binoculars:
