a Red Maple, for some reason I never brought my winching equipment other then the yellow tow strap.

I pulled it down a certain distance then cut it which left two still up there, the rhino pulled them down easy.

Thank god mother nature puts them on the ground, if we don't get any wind storms this year I actually might have to fell some trees! :hair:

I forgot this picture, that's the bud from the Maple.

After the rain ends this week, I'll be splitting it back in the woods.

I plan on hauling it out in the truck this year, I haul it a certain distance with the rhino to the truck in the woods then home.

This just popped up for this area, nothing real strong but if they brought down some widowmakers, that would be nice.

    It starts tomorrow morning.
WINDS...SOUTHEAST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH

50 mph gusts will bring something down I'm sure.

The wind has been rocking the trees since this morning, it would be nice if it knocked down some widowmakers, but that never happens.

    Nice easy wood!

Regarding the wind today, it almost blew my entire house over.... 45 and 50mph gusts directly out of east comes off the ocean and hits my house with nothing to block it! My hosue is on stilts and rocks and rolls in this stuff! Felt like I was up a tree!

That sounds hairy. The big ole white pines eat up a lot of the wind here, if it comes out of the west then it shots up the driveway an hits the house.

I came home yesterday to find that a big silver maple (18" or so) had blown over and landed right in the driveway where I normally park a car. The tree was a heavy leaner and slated to come down this weekend anyway, so it was a bit of a shock (and relief) to find that mother nature had done the job for me. Only down side was that the tree stripped the branches off a couple of young sugar maples I had been saving for future syrup production. I think some judicious pruning will save them.

It left a 30' spar with a single small branch, easy enough for me to drop. Turns out the point where it snapped, was about 50% rotten and already broken/cracked, so it was a good thing it fell when it did.

Those winds yesterday sure were brutal. I think we were getting some in the 50-60 mph range, which is really high for Vermont.
