Around 4:00 am, I did light a fire as it was rather cool in here and I was going to be up for a while anyway. To top it off, later in the morning I took atv and trailer in back and brought up part of a load of some punky oak. Sounds like we'll be having fires most of this week. It did get warm for a while here today but when we lost the sun, the breeze is cool. Rain coming very soon. So, no, the burning season is not over with yet.
It's about 67 out but our house is cool too, we'll have a fire tonight and I'm thinking that leftover shoulder season wood will get burned, not all of it.
Couldn't believe it here as it was 75 degrees and sunny and has been above 60 many times over several weeks. But at the bottom of the log pile several pieces were still frozen to the ground. Shows how much wood can insulate I guess. But we pounded it with mauls and split it anyway so it did no escape.
Im with ya Dennis. It's supposed to drop into the 40's tonight and be raining by morning. I'll probably light the stove before we hit the sack just to take the chill out.
We will continue to burn too. 3' of snow trying to melt. Just around freezing temp wise, but lots of strong sun
50 and raining now with a low of 40 tonight. Lows in the 30's this week so looks like the stove will get cranked up again. Furnace is off and it's staying that way.
Gonna be a cool week in Michigan. Not even gonna reach 50 degrees some days. Throw in a little wind and rain, and overnight lows in the 20's or 30's. Good times.
have about 1/3 of a cord on the patio yet, mostly red oak and a little elm. Looks like I will be burning the stove at least most of the nights after Tues. this week.
Only had one fire a week for the last few weeks, but now it looks like 60/40 for a while. Time to bring in more wood.
Dang, I cut it off on the 15th, said "That's it"................well couldn't take it this morning. Pouring rain with some wet snow mixed in. The wind is pounding @ 20-25 mph. Couldn't take the dampness anymore so I fired up Lil Brother. 40 outside, now 73 in here. Guess where I'm stayin today????
I was hauling a load of wood into the garage yesterday and wife stopped and says "what are you doing? " I said "getting ready for the next two weeks!" The forecasted nighttime temps are to be in the low 40's for quite a while so we'll be building fires at bedtime for the foreseeable future.
Unless it changed forecast was for slightly above freezing here for this evening- wind has been off Lake Michigan plus cold rain last night and this morning. Now it is just damp and around 40 something at present. ( wind bites) Lit the stove this morning and set it up with about a 3/4 load of Honey Locust should be decent inside when I get home tonight. There will be enough coals to start up a re-load. Still have around a 1/3+ of a cord of Hickory in the garage and and at least that much or a little more of mixed inside here at the the shop that I can take home - cord under cover outside at house mixed so no worries about running out.
Rotti, How long has it been windy? So far it has been a pretty calm, rainy day here. The house has stayed warm with a very small fire. I didn't bring enough wood in yesterday for the next few days, so have to see what doesn't have too much moisture on it. Just took a look a fe wminuites ago and didn't bring any in. Probably stupid, because it'll dry near the fire. OK The sun just came out. I know a break was predicted in the rain. Guess I'll go get a few damp splits while the sun is bright.
Rain stopped about 2 hours ago. Wind calmed down about the same time. Still very heavy clouds. Down to the upper 30's tonight.
