Today I hauled wood OUT of the house. The basement now has no wood in it for the first time since early October. I may build a fire here and there but what I burn I'll just carry in an armload at a time. Also today I converted the woodbox into a home for 6 baby chicks that the wife and kids picked up at Tractor Supply. It got close to 80 here today and we're sleeping with the windows open, so it's possible the stove has seen its last action for 6 months or so. Today I spent about an hour splitting some dead pine. This will be for outdoor fires over the summer. Of course I have some oak set aside for outdoors for those nights when I want to cook over the open fire, which I hope will be fairly often. In the next couple of weeks I'll clean out the stove and sweep the chimney and then the burning season will be over for sure. How many of you are still burning?
The weather forcast here says the next week will have nights in the 30's, once to 31°. So the wood stove won't be put to sleep just yet. I will haul the unused white oak back out in a few weeks so it can sit another summer in the sun.
Still burning the OWB. First part of the week (mon, tue, wed) supposed to get snow...nothing like they got out west, though!
Definitely still burning. the ice is still in the lake! 80 degrees! Where are you located? We're still cold at night. have been high 50's, low 60's with strong N winds during the day. One fire a day, at night. The house stays in the 70's during the day. 70 or lower by 8 PM, a light another fire, to keep the house warm overnight.
The ice on the lake at the cottage went out this past Friday. I'm a little hesitant about putting the dock in because they (dam people) usually raise the water level as soon as they can. Takes a couple weeks for it to go back down to a manageable level after that. Wouldn't want to see the decking on my dock be under water.
I'm in Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley, a couple hours west of DC. 70s most of this week I think. No ice or snow here to speak of!
Well I'm wearing shorts right now and mowed yesterday and worked on buiding a deck. 80 deg here yesterday
No fire here since last Thur. house is new and well insulated. Once the day time temps get into the 50 s the house stays in the 60s day and night.
Pretty much done burning here but may have an occasional fire or two to keep the furnace from coming on. Weather Channel says upper 50's this week with lows in mid 30's
77º here right now but I still see a few fires in the house yet at night. Sat out by the outdoor pit the last to evenings and brought home another load of that awful locust wood yesterday.
Had a fire started before bed last night, and fell asleep while watching "Grimm" on Hulu after I turned down the air. Woke up to the house @75 and sweating. Went to bed. The end.
