you are planting onions in Alaska and my garden is still covered with snow. I think it will be melted within the week. Most of the snow in the front of the house is gone except for the snow piles from the plows. My daughter inlaw did some raking today and uncover a lot of bulbs that are just peeking up. This is a very late year so far, but thing always have a way of coming out even by Memorial Day. I can't do a lick of planting with this bum leg. I can do the containers with a lot of effort. I would like to see some things in the solar greenhouse and the cloche. Some of my best plants have come from the cloche.

I'll check with the local AutoValue, but heat might help. Time for a little torchy work. My luck, I'll burn something to a crisp.

Ok, my peppers are finally popping up. Some Serrano's, some bell peppers too, idk if the jalapeƱos popped up yet, but there's hope for the peppers.

Italian parsley is coming up well now too.

I'm still planting my death pepper seeds to see if there are any viable seeds.

Planted some seeds, cab, lettuce squash...garden stuff in pots.
Put 4 tomatoes in soil boxes in the GH .
need to get a pack of brocc seeds & should be good to go.
Garden goes in near the end of May, sometimes sooner sometimes later depending on soil temps.

I was told this morning that the greenhouses have to be moved out to the front window as they need more light? Not a big deal as they drag pretty good.:coffee:

Ran into a buddy of mine in town yesterday and he informed me him and his wife still have some of the Scotch Bonnets in the freezer that I grew a couple years ago. Those things were hot hot. So he's gonna get me a bunch of seeds outta them and i'll just plant with the others and see what happens.
    That setup looks good tune:yes:

Unless he harvested and dried the pepper seed before freezing, you can anticipate zero germination from seeds cut out of frozen peppers.

Tomato plants went in the ground Thursday. I was starting a row of green bells and it started raining & raining & raining.

Everyone waiting on those pepper seeds to pop - has a lot to do with soil temperature 80-85F daytime temp;)

I am easily getting that in the hoop house, its the lows I am not sure will be acceptable. I won't put summer crops out until memorial day weekend and all chance of frost is out of the question. (I vividly remember covering sweet potato plants on 05/14/2013.)

My uncle starts my mater seed (San Marzano and amish paste, maybe 1 slicer?) under 12 bulbs, they come to me with 3/4" diameter stalks, they will go directly into the hoop house this year as that bed is up in rotation.

I also tripled my water collection surface, which I hopefully have time to finish the connection this weekend.

I know about the northern frosts, worked at a nursery & vegetable farm for 10yrs in Southern Maine - potatoes are about the only thing you plant before Memorial Day.

If the seeds are in pots you may be holding soil temps OK.
If you have space fill empty plastic bottles with water and set them inside - creates a thermal mass that will release passive heat and help stabilize overnight temps

I've had my starter trays in the front bay window for a while now. They get the sun and heat up nicely. I did make 2 liter soda cones for my potted cucumber hot houses in the patio door area. That really got those seeds going and I should have a lot of cucumbers to pickle this year.

I just need to find a recipe to get pickles that are crunchy, and not soggy. They have good flavor, but zero crunch.
