Already doesed my dogs. Started a month ago. Now using advantics. Frontline in no longer effective in this area. I tested lyme positive after a tic bite. I developed a football size celluitis on my abdomen. About the most prolonged painful event for me, ever.
Gave our dogs their first round of advantix for this spring. Without it, im pulling ticks off them almost every night
Dogs have already had their first dose of AdvantixII on April 1st. They'll continue getting that until probably September....maybe Oct. I need to start spraying my clothes too....very soon. I check myself and the dogs after EVERY excursion outside....no exceptions. I've found a few dead ticks on the floor here in the living room, so the stuff works.
My honey and I, like many other FHC folks, are madder than h*ll we even have to think about ticks. Never had any here that we'd heard of 20 years ago. What a PITA they are. I'm treating all stuff I wear in the woods with Sawyers. Gonna turn it up a notch I think this year. Course, Giz can still bring em in too, and she's down near the edge of the grass/treeline a lot. Daughter and SIL, with the 2 lil boys, don't seem to give ticks the slightest thought... Grammy always mentions it too. (I have to remember I used to be just like that... )
Do those that treat your dogs with Advantix etc also get the Lyme vaccine for the dog? Just wondering.
I think I've been a little too frugal when applying my Permethrin spray. I still have enough to make several more gallons, so I think I'll be applying quite a bit more liberally this year. For us, "tick time" is nigh. Dave, no....didnt know there was such a thing. Wife gives all shots but the Rabies. She could do that too, but if one of the dogs bit someone, there would be no "official" record of it, so we have that done.
You wanna see something scary? Look up Powhattan disease.......the newest gift from our little tick friends......
