Does anyone know what model this power head is? There's nothing in the background to compare the bar size too but I"m guessing a 28-32".
Or could be an 042 as well. Stihl didn't make them too long and parts are hard to come by. I had a few laying around in a tote for a couple years and never could get one runner. I didn't try really hard to find the parts, but when I did look, luck wasn't on my side. 28-32 bar in the pic is probably a good guess.
Are the 048AV's going to be hard to find parts for? I had an 045AV for a while and never had trouble with it other than the oiler drive and it wasn't a battle find something used for that one.
I don't know for sure. I gotta think that many of the parts are NLA from the dealer. There does seem to be quite a few of them around though. I've heard saws in this series were notorious for ignition issues.
But that 045 shares parts with an 056 IIRC and they built a ton of those. New parts for anything older than the 044/064 is kinda a gamble and I wouldn't expect what is available to be produced in the future. If you're willing to get creative for good used parts, these old saws aren't too bad to keep running. But I have to admit, the 048 isn't a machine you see everyday, running or not.
Well it's on a garage sale slated for this weekend so I'm thinking about taking a drive down just to check it out. I assume that I should check the regular stuff like the smell of any remaining gas, seat of the pants compression, possibly piston condition if they let me take the muffler cover off? Anything else? Obviously if it's a runner I'll ask to start it and listen to how it operates.
Parts for them bring good money. So you can always do that to get your money back out of it if need be.
