Today is the first time I've split wood since July or August 2013. This is how the split pile looked before the splitting started. Notice no cushion on the milk crate yet so that has to say nothing was yet done. I could not work for long. I had just taken a break when I got a call. A neighbor was coming to get some raspberry plants and also was going to till our garden. So that gave me a nice long break, which was badly needed. After finishing with them I was going to split more. Probably a mistake but I worked around 15 minutes then just had to call it a day. I am sorry to say this old body is whipped. Not sure if I'll be able to do more tomorrow or not. But if I peck away at it a little at a time it will get done. Would like to finish before next week as we have turkey hunters coming in then.
Every round split is more BTUs for the stove ! Sitting & splitting is a good easy start to the project. Stacking will take a bit more effort though. Slow & steady will get-r done
Jeez Dennis, take it easy.....you're makin' me look bad. I went out today and spent about another 1/2 hour getting my Oak finished. Still need to get it stacked, but that's another day. Peck away at it.
Looks good Dennis, You are ahead of me I must admit. All the rain has the ground pretty juicy around here.
If you all knew how much wood I have split by hand in the past two days, you'd be rolling on the ground you'd be laughing so hard. Sometimes I'm tempted to get a splitter, but I don't think it would help much, because the hard part is splitting the rounds until they are light enough for me to handle. Have to do that by hand. Once that is done, the rest is relatively easy.
Your doing great Dennis. Get a good re-charge and go again when you're ready. Whatever time that takes. You always put me to shame...
Looks like you got through all those big elm rounds! Taking the bull by the horns - I like it! Should be smooth sailing after that! So... I know you said your wife's stacks weren't up to par... But I sure know you're a great teacher! So... Maybe it's time?
