Reminds me when offer the kids a penny a stick. Very expensive day for me. Forgot to specify what a stick was.
35º and more Pine slab wood heating things up. It went to mid sixties here yesterday. Suppose to get up into the seventies today!
49 out Last load was yesterday morning. Let it run out last nite. Still 68 in the house this morning. First nite since sometime last November without a fire. Yard pretty well cleaned up yesterday and shifting into spring gear. Prolly a few more bouts of snow but the fat lady is almost through her performance !! Propane more now.
No fire last night for the first time since sometime last Sept., but I had to put a few splits in when I got up. The house was chilly, even though it only got down to about 45 overnight. Rainy and about 50 right now, but feels cooler. May have to do a small fire in a while. Supposed to clear sometime this afternoon, and get nice the rest of the week. Had 70 yesterday with full sun.
The windows are open with the temp at 73 with a nice breeze, we'll go without a fire again tonight. I sort of missed having coffee while making a fire in the morning.
We hit 82º here today and that was higher than predicted. Got done a smidge early and beat feet to the locust grove for another big load on the F-150. I have cut and hauled over 2 full cords of locust home now, don't know if I will go after much more this spring unless I take a day or 2 off from work. I really have to shift into splitter mode and I mowed grass for the first time on Sat. Last fire was Sat. evening but tomorrow night looks like I may light one off....not many more will be needed I don't believe.
No fire yesterday no fire last night or today, 64 today windows are still open, 66 in the house now, going down to 40 tonight I will have a fire here in a little while
40ish this morning. I've let the boiler go out for now. I'll give it a cleaning when I get time and then fire it back up tonight.
It will be another day/night without a fire. I'm not sure what we had for a temp this morning but that cold front had some good winds with it last night. We'll save the firewood for that snow and cold weather near the end of the month.
It is 52 right now, and supposed to go down to 33. I got chilly about midnight and lit a small fire. It was still actively burning at 7:30 AM when I left. House was 74. The house is now 70 degrees. I suspect we'll cool down to around 66 by midnight again, and I'll light another fire. How quickly we get spoiled! In Feb I would never have believed I'd be anything but grateful for 66 degrees without the help of a fire. We had a lot of rain last night. Today many hepatica are in bloom in the woods: white, pink, blue, lavender and multicolored. Snowdrops continue to emerge. Spring beauty is in bloom, squirrel corn and Dutchman's breeches, bloodroot, wild garlic, claytonia, knautia, centura Montana, peonies are all starting to leaf out. The iris and daffodils continue to erupt. Some crocus are in bloom. I found two clumps in the woods today, courtesy of some little critter. The robins are back. The frogs are calling. The moths are active on the windows at night. Saw two mourning cloaks and many bees feeding on the sap seeping out of a 36 inch maple stump, cut last year. Also a brushfoot butterfly active in the area. Had mason bees on my red laundry basket. Love the Spring and Autumn.
68 today, windows are still open, getting ready to close them, 68 in the house, down to 34 tonight so I will put some ash and maple in the stove in a couple of hours.
