He want's his yard cleaned up before the splitter goes anywhere.
He's stingy - that's why he didn't get rid of the tree rounds off his property to the tree service.
Want's someone to show up and do it in a day, clean up the wood and show up at the end of the day and offer him $200

    ∆this.

He's an odd kook. Play his game, solve his riddle, and maybe you'll take the prize home.

Went back and loaded my truck again with 80% locust, some maple , and I think pear. The guy told me to make him an offer on the splitter, so I told him 450$. He told me its all mine, but he wants to use it to split up his pile first.. Until I have it hitched to my truck, I won't be satisfied.. I'll post some pictures. It's a 31 ton yard machine , it needs some minor work, nothin I can't fix . We split some wood with it and it worked great.

That splitter looks just like my parents 21 ton mtd splitter, albeit more weathered and not kept up as well.

That said, we're all pulling for you to get this. Yeah, of you help him split, there's a better chance of you getting it. Plus he might even cut a couple bucks off for helping him.

How is the older wood that could be sweet gum? Is it salvageable?

Why is the owner splitting wood and giving wood away?

Some of it isn't sweet gum, looks to be maple, i split a piece by hand and it seemed really light in weight, and kind of rotten looking, so it doesn't even seem worth it. I did find some nice locust hidden in the back, so I'll go after that next time. Do you think that splitter is worth 450$??

Is it worth $450 to you ? That's the most important part.

    IMO
450 for a working splitter that does Horz/Vert is a good deal !
less than 1/2 the price of a new one :)

Sounds like you are getting several cords of wood too. Added together, a great deal to me !

    Oh yeah it's worth 450.

What are some of the things that need to be fixed/ adjusted/ re-engineered on it?

The fact that it works means it's worth 450, plus you are getting whatever amount of wood only make the deal better.

I've been looking for a splitter over the last 6 months , but refuse to pay over 500. I'm just a weekend warrior as far as wood hoarding goes, if I had the property I think I would have a serious wood "problem" lol.. For 450, I feel really good about it, I have a welder in my garage and can fix and probably fabricate any part on it. And the cord of locust I pulled outta there makes it a great deal as far as I'm concerned .
