Well, I finally had enough. It seems that the way the burn pot, pellet "diverter", and stirrer are designed on the 10-cpm, plus the velocity of the pellets coming down the feed chute all seem to create a situation where the pellets will often hit and bounce out of the pot into the surrounding ash collection area. I don't get many BTU's from those, do I? I even measured how many pellets were bounced since the last cleaning on Saturday (about 4 bags), I ended up with 1/2 cup.

I had gotten tired of trying to use my fingers to scoop out the unburned ones during cleanings instead of using the vacuum...a real dirty job (and no, I'm NOT sifting through all that ash to get them out of the vacuum!).

So, as I mentioned to Dexter yesterday (he used to have the same stove), I decided to fab up what I think may be a solution. With a sheet of 22ga. mild steel (Lowes), some aviation snips, mallet, vice, tape measure, and pencil in hand, I came up with this. In the past hour of running, not 1 pellet out of the burn pot. I guess all those years of making race car bodies paid off....LOL.

No, I didn't paint it, as I didn't want to waste good Hi-heat spray on something that may not work. If it does, it'll get that during the next cleaning.

Let me know what you think

LOL...yeah, it sounds ridiculous, but I only did to calculate over a longer period of time.....over 20 bags that's 2 1/2 cups that didn't go toward the heat. Over a ton, that's over 6 cups.

Anyway, over the last 2 hrs, not a single pellet outside the pot. So far, so good.

We'll see. Stove has been in On-Off since this morning, but off most of the time since I did the mod (temp's were in the mid 50's here today) and not supposed to get cold again until Sat. Time will tell........

No, not correct for DIRT modifieds (aka "track dryers"). It IS correct on 410 Outlaw sprints. :D

Too late, he has already gone over the edge.

Try some spray graphite on the outside of that mild steel to dull it a bit and to have a uniform color.

OK, latest (and probably last update). It's been more than 24 hrs since I installed the blocker, and there are NO pellets outside the burn pot. I guess it's a success. Next time I clean the stove, I'll treat it to some high heat black paint.
