Planned & wired for it 4 years ago Lightbars just came in today http://www.maxlite.com/products/plug-and-play-led-lightbars I found these around the time I planned the remodel - dimmable direct wire LED I'm going to play around with the mounting location for light distribution. Figured you hacks have some input yes pics will come along
The light bars are nice, but I just can't bring myself to pay the kind of money they want for them. I'll be doing dimmable light strips under the cabinets and toe kicks at a fraction of the cost.
please specify products. light strip? Diffuser? Transformer? Dimmer? Give folks ideas of how to keep costs down, while achieving a similar product
Basod, lukem IIRC just did this. I asked but it was over my head so I bought a plug and play kit instead.
I haven't purchased anything yet, but compared prices. I'm not up for quizzes, the info's out there. Here's some strip from a random amazon search. http://www.amazon.com/LEDwholesalers-Flexible-SMD3528-Adhesive-2026WH/dp/B002Q8V8DM You can also buy packages with all the components. I'll figure out what's cheapest when I buy it. I'll definitely have a master on/off switch, because I hate turning a light on with a dimmer.
I know how to design/wire up a low voltage setup, it's not hugely complicated just didn't want to get into the fringe of ungrounded peel &stick products. I decided against it due to light placement of individual LEDs(they cause reflections off glossy surfaces - think seeing individual LED's on your granite countertop), plus the wiring of a transformer in some inconspicuous future accessible place. From the original time I found these they have upgraded to a grounded 3-prong linkable connector, mine will all be hardwired...and they can be dimmed to 14% without flicker
Started installing my led lights today. I used the strip lights that I posted in an earlier post, but I had to buy a power supply that cost $69, so that I could use a standard household digital lutron dimmer. Ended up costing under $100 to light 5ft of countertop. The transformer is strong enough that it will also power the toe kick lights. I was worried that the light would be too harsh, but it has a nice yellow hue to it. Like it a lot and more importantly, so does the wife. This is the power supply that I got. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KWVFXC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Same here Norky the manufacturer recommended Lutron Diva dimmer. First pic full brightness, install pic , and fully dimmed
Looks good guys! One of the best improvements I've made here was under counter lighting, you are going to love that install.
This thread caught my attention. I prewired my kitchen for lights a while back and did nothing yet. I have tried a couple times to show up with lights and get them installed, but the wife poo-poos the design and back they go. If memory serves me, the wires have been hanging under those cabinets for 15 years. No, really.
That corner looks exactly like my kitchen; stove position, window and cabinet sizes. You did not make my mistake though. In a moment of genius ignorance, I opted to use the dead space in the corner to position the sink. Figuring that corner cabinet base would be nearly useless and all the dear space on the counter top would be lost. Hate the reality of what we ended up with. Matter of fact the chance of the cabinet lights being completed prior to the kitchen being reworked is slim. Already have some new components awaiting the alteration.
exactly the same thing i am working on right now LED lights , i put a kit over the sink and my wife and i both love the results , so i guess i get to install more under the cabinets next , i am going to run a set down my inside stairs , i think that will look cool and work great for the intended purpose .
