I am ready to see what it can do! Thanks to TLandrum! It sounds mean. Been busy at work and now I've got the flu going around. I want to go cut so bad but a little while longer is no big deal. Seeing that saw on my bench is realy giving me an itch to get out there soon!

If you were closer, I would come over and run it for you. I would be nice enough to do it in front of your window so you could see it in action! LOL

Heal fast, you have more restraint than me!

I WILL NOT let anyone use or "borrow" my ms650. I will on the other hand go cut your big wood for you !:)

Buddy pinched his bar last weekend cutting wood. I gave him my beater 372 and I grabbed the 650,even though I was running the 372 at the time. I won't let him run the stihl.

Well, I just learned that the area behind my house is apparently off limits this year for firewood collection. Commercial logging op going on. :( The crappy thing is that's not even the worst part.

I just can not fathom how this is legal for the Forest Service to sell such a large block of woods. They're butchering everything around me right now. It's really sad and pathetic. This isn't selective management, it's straight clear cutting and it makes me sick. I'm very upset by this behavior. I like my TP though and I understand the need for it. I just wish they were not so destructive.

I moved here 4 years ago this week. I picked this locatin due to the forest and mostly- for the trees all around me. They're now being removed. It just really sucks. If it gets too bad, I will be moving. pizzed about that.

Its called management. Its no secret what and when it gets cut if you asked when the rotation was up for that area before you moved the for eater would have told you I am sure.

As a forester I am on the other side of this. I like mature forward as well. But USFS is multi use. In a few years it will look different. But its not random I promise.

I know its not random and I am aware of where they are logging. But is it not possible to leave some of the area visible from public access? When you're driving along day after day in a beautiful forest and then it's gone and what's left is total destruction. How would you feel?

I'm not against logging, I'm very pro-logging, it will help growth just as does controlled burns. What I have a problem with is there is no thought or concern for what it does to the look of an area for years if not decades until it recovers. Hard to sell a house with a view of the aftermath of a clear cut forest...

While I should have checked that first, and I'm kicking myself for it now, how many here have bought a house while checking with the forest service for a clear cutting schedule? Bueller, Bueller?

Sadly when you manage there are several options, not always best for everyone. You can leave a thin buffer 50-100 feet wide and just thin it. But you still see clear cut behind it so what are you hiding? Industry does that often. USFS does it sometimes. They have managers discression for areas and minor decisions but I think that stuff is already decided in their management plan. On the USFS side if they leave a buffer they are left with a long linear strip that is vastly degraded in value now cause the economy of scale thing. Basically you end up either making lots of loading decks or you have long pulls...loggers choice but it devalues the governments wood in this case as the logging rates go up.

If you want to PM me I will let you in on my experience and what exactly I do ,(I dont post it randomly usually) but I deal with things almost just like what your dealing with.

I do feel for you!! I know what you feel. I had some of my favorite hunting spots on my own property, my neighbor clear cut. I had mixed feelings then I remembered it was his property...life goes on. Same things happened to some of my favorite hunting spots on public land too!!!

I'm ok with it, it just sucks. Life moves on.

I will be sure the next place I move to will include a lot of land with a lot of trees. Might be a long time but when it does happen, you can bet your backside on it.
