We had A&W drive-ins around. Frosted mugs of Root Beer and a burger with fries.
I remember drive-in theaters too.

 

I worked at a McD's many moons ago(still in HS), and it still had the old yellow arches. This was when they were just coming out with eggamuffins.
I ran the grill and all we cooked (that I remember), were burgers, fish filets (riiight), and fries. No salads or much of anything else.
Used to love it....not.....when a bus load of people showed up. Much simpler.

 

Sandy's was a name of the fast food restaurant where you could get a sack of burgers for a buck.

Dad didn't mind much stopping there...saved money! I don't know if they are even in existence now-a-days.

 

Back in the early 60's we had a "Stewarts" root beer stand near our house. It was a drive-in style which specialized in Coney Island Dogs, Scramburglers (Sloppy Joe) and fries. They had car hop service with window trays for your food. Their Root Beer was famous and was served in big frozen glass mugs or you could get it as a gallon take out in dk brown glass jugs. Went back thru there about 5 years ago and it was still there, serving the same stuff the same way cept the RB was in plastic. We also had a stand called HOT DOG JOHNNIE'S. Small stand right along the Pequest River on the border between N.J and Penna.. World Famous and still going the same way since 1952 run by the same family. Hot Dogs only, any way you wanted them...........................

 

They are still around, this one, US 23 Drive In, I worked at when I was a teenager, it's still here, 3/4 of a mile from my house. Been there since 1950

We had a 54 Ford chopped off behind the front seat and made into like a pickup truck, we drove around to pick up all the bags of trash that we had picked up with a poker sticks.

Some of us used to take our go carts out there in the daytime and have a ball, dodgin poles was fun, our boss, the owner was cool guy to work for.
Always free movies when I worked there, didn't have any cars we just walked in and waved, there were benches to sit on all across the front
oh yeah, much simpler time back then

Man! there was so much stuff you could do back then that didn't bother anyone, people didn't get all jacked out of shape and call the cops for any little thing, and even the cops wouldn't hassle you for stupid things like they do nowadays

 

Sorry Dave, I was talking about rotti's video about Beany's Drive-In.
Heck, even White Castle is getting expensive. None up here, but quite a few downstate.

 

Loved them too Dave. The stand in Brattleboro is long gone now but was this design. Great thread... good memories.

Back then there was no FHC!

 

There's a little place down Fort St., in Southgate called Bob-Jo's. Nothing but frozen custard from a little shack. Place is ALWAYS packed on the weekends and when it's warm out, because the custard is to die for.
I think it's been there since the 40's or 50's. Don't know if it's still there.

The Henry's Hamburgers chain in Green Bay during the 60's once added one more burger for a buck for every game the Packers won that season. To support "the Pack". It was a GOOD season 'cause they got up to 11 hamburgers for $1 at Henry's! Talk about a bunch of famished teenage boys cashing in on that !! I thought we'd died and gone to heaven.

 

I don't know, I'm pretty simple now.
