Good for ambience and not too much more.... Now then- moisture meters- yes? Great tool to prove that if yer wood is heavier than you think it should be... Honey, bring me ......... THE bathroom scale! ( similar to, " You shall cut down a tree in the Enchanted Forest with....... a HERRING!)
Never have heard any one call a fireplace a "smoke dragon", usually a term reserved for a pre EPA stove.
Not yet. Going with an insert as the existing fireplace is all good. Leaning toward the large quadra, or buck (91 iirc). I got 33% before it hurt.
Oh, it's pre EPA alright. If it makes smoke, it's a smoke dragon in my eyes. The 14" x 14" flue doesn't help, but will allow me to run any insert in it. It won't matter if the insert needs an 8" pipe in it, there plenty of room.
An insert will be so much better , you will love it , burn a heck of a lot less wood . I got 33% before it hurt, meter is reading right ,then
We had a chimney fire in the house I grew up in- don't remember it- by way of our fireplace. Mom was burning in it, dad was on midnights(Suffolk county PD- apparently he showed up pretty quick), but then again, my dad still tells me 6-8 months from the stump (oak included) is ready to burn. Since I've joined this site in January, he has maybe started to listen.... Think I'm gonna send him a MM for Father's Day! But after being in the Keys for the past month, he may not need it- they've got their Northern Neck Virginia home on the market, looking to relocate- can't imagine the need for wood heat in the Keys!
I was in San Diego at daughters house , putting up TV wall mount , needed a level , used the one on my phone , worked out good
No, that it won't. But this thing you could use to track moisture of a stack anytime you measure it. Obviously letting wood sit for months of not years is your best choice, and doesn't need any gizmo to know the wood is good to burn.
Light years ahead of me, HDRock, yes sir. Guess I need to come out from under this rock I've been hiding under...
You must like old veedubs. All the newer ones, and Audi's, are needing crazy software and programming to clear the CEL that is on once the warranty expires. I embrace technology, because I'm at the end of the generation X era, gen Y'ers can't do anything without a computer, and baby boomers don't use any tech unless they are forced to.
Not quite right, I am a baby boomer and I embrace technology, It's just not as easy for me as younger people
Just making a funny, that's all. None of us can be pigeonholed like that, except gen y'ers. You obviously embrace tech too, posting about the apps.
