Well I just got done servicing thet splitter looks like I better get on lawnmower and get it ready burning season is over here at least for me it is. Still would like to put down a couple more cords though
I just thought of that Saturday and almost pulled off my blades to sharpen them. Although with all the tiny sticks that fell into my yard over the winter it's probably best to wait until after I've mowed a few times to sharpen, as I know there's no way I'll find them all and pick them up.
That's how I do it too. I'd never get all the sticks and just dull my blades of I sharpened them before the first lawn cutting or 2.
Yes, because lawn mowing season lasts forever, and IMHO is a waste of good quality outside activities time. If I had a kid, I'd have them mow, letting me get other warm weather stuff done.
yesterday most of the white stuff melted and i was able to see more than half of my lawn. this morning, some more white stuff covered everything...
I feel the same way. It seems every single guy I know loves to mow, and things I'm crazy because I despise it! I bought a 50" zero turn just to get it done faster, but if I could do it all over again I'd just get a normal lawn mower. Because now that I'm married, my wife (who loves to mow) won't run a ZTR, but would have been fine running a riding mower. I wish I'd have known that 2 years ago before we were "serious"!!!
I think we need to trade mowers. My wife won't even run the push mower, when it ran. Maybe if I get a nice new powered one that is easy to start, she'll do the trimming and the lawn will get finished sooner?
Not going to be cutting lawn here for at least six weeks. Lot of serious gardening to do before that. Wish the grass could be cut sooner: the clippings make great mulch in the garden, keep the weeds from ever getting a start. We use no poisons or fertilizers, so its all mulch and elbow grease. Much less energy involved if we can get a good mulch down early.
Some "green grass" Pictures would lift the spirits of us folks with no green to look at for a while. Will be a while before the brown yard starts turning green. Just now getting gooey & soft on top of the frozen ground. Got to stay off in for 2 to 3 weeks of I get ruts , not even good to walk on it. Always have moose track to repair.
Ya want to make sure the ground is warmed up before putting grass clipping down. Most plants don't like cold roots. There are some that do better. Just have to know which ones.
It will be at least another week before I can even start cleaning up all the gravel and dirt that is all over my lawn from plowing snow.
Yes. I'm going to put the first grass clippings where there are no plants, to keep weeds away. Fresh grass clippings actually get really hot and can burn the plants. Last year, which was a ridiculously wet year, I put grass clippings about a foot deep over half of my tomato bed, then about three days later pulled the grass away from the area where I wanted to plant the tomatoes, planted them, then pulled the grass back so it was just not touching the stem. The tomatoes in that half of the bed did better than the others, and I had no weeding all season in that portion of the bed. Grass clippings do smother weed seedlings nicely.
I opened the door to let the dogs out at 5am and almost crapped my pants. It looked like a dang blizzard . I'm guessing I won't be mowing for another few weeks
Mix those fresh grass clipping with some leaves. make great compost pretty fast. Then spread the compost around some tomatoes. easy / fast / simple compost bin :
I've been thinking about putting a few pallets together like that for a compost box. The PVC pipe with holes cut in it, is that for air circulation?
