Frederickson Farm early buy prices: Vermonts: $323 picked up / $348 delivered Energex: $313 picked up / $328 delivered These prices reflect a $25 - $28 increase over last year's early buy prices for the same products.
This early buy season is not getting off to a good start in this area. Prices are nuts so far, but I'm still holding out hope that Robbins will come through with some spectacular early buy deals. On the other hand, I think the McManus Fuels prices are pretty much the same as last year, no? At least I'm pretty sure La Cretes were $279 last year too, if not more? I don't understand the large price swings in some places, but not in others that are a mere hop skip and a jump away.
yea, once again, wholesale prices don't seem to have dropped much, if at all, for Spring. The one unknown that comes to mind is how much fuel oil, gas, electricity will be this coming Winter.....what might *seem* like a bad price today might seem like a bargain in December....who knows?

They really need to tell what brand these are. People should not be expected to lay down hard earned cash without knowing what they are purchasing. Deceptive business practices in my opinion.
although Dfir is usually a good/great product, I agree that it would be exceedingly helpful to know which brand is available. Do they even have the product on the ground? For me that's the scariest part....remember the fun of this past fall when some dealers didn't get the product they had contracted for? Don't let this happen to you. Order them, pay for them, GET them. Don't wait till fall.
I also don't like the fact they could over sell em. From what I was told they don't actually know what they are getting! Or how much is actually landing. I don't prebuy anything period! Call me when you get them.
I'll let you all know cause I am on the hook for four ton! What can I say, I like to roll the dice. At that price versus this year's box store junk, I can't afford not to. Mystery Doug firs for $309 or Greene team at blowes for $312.50?
from the whats it worth department ....all Douglas Fir is not the same...coastal (WA & OR) is frankly a better product than an inland Douglas Fir/Larch product. The drier the pellet, the better it will burn. And unless the bag states its 100% Douglas Fir....it probably isn't....not saying that the mystery Douglas Fir pellets being offered at $309 are bad...just knowing who they are and or where they come from would be a big help to determine what you are buying.....buyer beware and at the same time this might be the buy of the year....oh wait Blazers at $249 from HD is the buy of the year, when available...maybe this is the 2nd best buy of the year.....just my $.02 worth.
I'd be better off wishing in one hand than betting on seeing Blazers at any Home Despot near me. Best I scored this year at a BB were Somerset and AWF white pine.
Seems like coastal trees would have more chlorides. But I will take your word that inland is better. Does this hold true for all tree species. What about the Southern Pine your golds are made of? Inland versus coastal? Or is it all inland? Or are they all so similar that differences are so minute, men tioning the differences just confuses the matter?
The coastal Douglas Fir is usually better than inland...but then you have to get 100% Douglas Fir to get the very best product ....most inland DF contains other species of Fir, and an example of that would be larch....whether there is much difference would be determined by each person using the different pellets. Most say they can see a big difference. The Gold's are made with Southern Yellow Pine from GA...and the big difference with Yellow pine from mills in the south is how much bark is in their product. Most Yellow pine comes from whole logs (chipped) compared to my 100% DFir and SPF products which is fall down from sawmills (sawdust) and normally contains little if any bark. Remember pellets will burn differently in different stoves and there are alot of variables that will go into how your pellets/stove perform. The biggest factor is how clean your stove is...that can have huge effects on how well one performs.....
