I thought of the same thing Dennis. We had an out of the ordinary winter for our area, thats for sure. But it made me wonder what things were like in the rest of the country, and things were far from normal in other places too. I believe it's a freak thing, I'm hoping to have normal snowfall and temps next year. And, I don't think we even had an indian summer this year either. Thats when the dairy queen down the road opens up for a week and then closes up again until mid March.
I certainly hope this isn't a long term trend. After the long cold snap plus back to back snow storms last winter and basically the same this winter except an even longer cold snap, im ready for a mild winter next year
I'm betting the warmer areas wouldn't trade for our cold at any price. Cold means more expenses, machinery and people don't work as well and cold just plain causes a lot of deaths. Warmer is better.
Folks in central CA might have a different take on that. Extended precip shortage there- agriculture is #1 economic force in CA. Or was ... Some there are in preparatory panic mode already. For one, I'll take the cold (with precip. of course). Big challenge for some: understanding GLOBAL climate change. Who'll help Teddy out?
Just another factor indicating climate change is real. I'm no scientist, and I don't play one on T.V., so I can't and won't say with certainty that it's caused by the human race or a natural event. In the end, we are all living here on the Mother Planet together so maybe, for our own good, we should try to, at the very least, slow it down as best we can. Sorry, didn't mean to open that can, just thinking out loud..... err.... ahh.... with my fingers.
I work with several folks out west in Utah and Oregon, and it's been interesting talking to them throughout the winter. Their ski resorts were only open for a few weeks, and now there's barely any snowpack left, when normally it lasts far into summer. I on the other hand, used about 20% more firewood than I had planned on!
Western droughts were far worse in the past. The problem lies in too many people living in a desert area.
I understand global climate change quite well, been closely following this debate for many years now. The challenge for most is to look behind the curtain and don't take for granted as gospel everything you're told. The science is far from settled.
let us look behind the headline. .05 *F smashing to old record of 2007. that is point zero five degrees F. five one hundredths of one degree F. wait till the el nino ramps ups and we roast this summer, talk about headlines! the agw folks won't blame mother nature but that co2 stuff. it will become the end on mankind as we know it. just some thoughts. is it #1 or #2http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-blogs/climatechange/second-warmest-winter-on-recor/44025168
I'm afraid that map is fake; (i.e. made with fake data) Reasonably good explanation here (and elsewhere): https://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wor...tampering-with-temperatures-in-south-america/
Sadly this has become so politicized that you don't know what to believe! Is the Earth warming or cooling? If it is warming, is it a natural climate change (like the Earth has experienced since it's inception) or THIS time are evil humans responsible? No mater what you believe, you can find "research" to back up your own theories. I hope that in a couple decades that actual science will prevail over money and we know for sure what's going on. Then we can look back on this time period and laugh that we were told that carbon credits would save the polar bears.
Suffice to say that there is way to much money and power attached to the global climate issue for us mere peasants to comprehend. Also this is the kind of BS that pits us against each other. I say leave for the "other place" to fight over and lets talk wood!
I wasn't born yet in the 70's but I've heard about that and think that's hilarious! It seems the media and politicians are like Chicken Little, and try to get the rest of us to follow their charades on whatever crisis shows up as the latest flavor of the month.
