From what I see, used are either barely less than new, the same price as new on sale, or higher than new sale price. It makes no sense. Now is the time to buy splitters, they go up in price in summer heading into fall. A friend of mine is wanting a horizontal/Vertical splitter and I've been trying to tell him now is the time....
Here, used dht 22 tons are in cl for 1100. Umm, I know they were , or hopefully still are 900 new from Lowes. I nearly got a speeco 25ton for 300, with a severely failing Briggs. It looked good despite that, and my buddy's dad retired from Briggs, so we've got motors, or can put one together. But I couldn't bring myself to drive over an hour, waking up at 5 to get to his place, first come first served on a Sunday am, and possibly end up going home with no splitter if the other guy beat me to it. I was talking with the guy for 4 days, trying to set up a time, after work during the week. No go. It was, "I'm up at 5:30 Sunday am, have 4 guys interested, first one there takes it for 300." That's cl though. He wouldn't/ couldn't get me a picture of his splitter either, making me more leery. Fun and bs most times when buying.
See, that's obnoxious. I know that as a seller it's a pain working with awful buyers, but I always try to set myself up to allow an honest buyer a fair shot. I would have walked too. David
New guy here as well. If you haven't pulled the trigger just yet, Lowe's just put the Dirty Hand 22 ton unit on sale. I almost bought it yesterday, but waited. Checked this morning and it was on sale $150 off. Add 10% coupon took it to $950 OTD in Ky. Hope this helps.
They were getting hard to find here. I'm driving an hour to get mine. Two closer stores sold out. Wanted the extra features over the TSC unit.
Looking forward to picking it up. Got two Sycamores down just itching to bust up... Plus a large white oak.
Where are you guys getting the 10% Lowes coupon? I used to get the "movers" coupon but it looks like they discontinued that. <\hijack>
Try a competitor coupon (harbor freight...). They usually all match and take other coupons to keep you in the store... I used a 20% HF at Home Depot for my splitter. Took a nice chunk off it. Good luck!
So I had a look at the Dirty Hands 22t at lunch. It uses a bolt/nut across the cylinder rod to drive the wedge. On one side, the threads of the bolt were contacting the side of the holes in the wedge yoke. And the metal on the yoke was not very thick either. I'm not a great engineer, but I know that's weak and possibly dangerous. For carrying shear loads, use a shear pin. What similar splitters are actually built well in this area? As for the coupon, I found a web link earlier that lets you get a 10% movers discount. The link appeared to be valid, so I assumed that's how it was done.
Interesting, I looked at the DHT in person a few months ago and was impressed how well it looked to be built. Seemed to be built like a tank! But I'm no expert on this in any way, and didn't look at it that detailed. The only thing I didn't like about it was as with most Horiz splitters I've seen, it looks like the wheels and axel would be in the way for standing in front of the work area on the beam. That doesn't seem to bother many people, but it would drive me nuts.
Just Google Lowe's 10% coupon code. I found one that has a bunch of xxxx in it. Said to replace the x's with random numbers. Worked the very first time.
