I know day two and im already asking dumb questions. Do i need to get the STT up to a certain temp for the paint to cure? And i am assuming since i have no flue attached and no draw that is why it snuffs out when i fully close the door with the air wide open? Good news is my wood is producing no smoke so its nice and ready!
STT? The paint smell on my new NC13 was negledgible. The smell from repainting our old smoke dragon was stinky, like hot metal chemically.... We opened a few windows and were fine til we burned it hotter later, just opened windows again. WTG on the dry wood! You may be right, the metal not getting hot enough to cure the paint.
The paint will start curing even at the lowest temps, but until it hits at least 3-400 degs, I wouldn't expect much. Every time you hit a new high temp, it'll cure and "offgas" some more. It'll take a while....several fires. The only dumb questions are the ones not asked. Put at least a 3-4' section of stove pipe on that bad boy, and it'll burn gooder. You're doing this outside, I take it? I don't see any pics. ww, STT is stove top temp. Oh, and when I installed my 30, the alarm kept going off until I pulled the battery.
Well, if it is like my 30-NC was, you need to get it up pretty hot in temp to burn off any oil residue and cure the paint. I did not cure mine and my smoke alarms went off here after the first few good hot fires. Not much smoke, but the alarms sensed it. Also wide open with no flue it is not likely to get hot enough. Put a piece of tin over the hole to trap some heat or put a section of stove pipe on it so it can get going. Also they may want you to build a few small fires first to cure it before burning full blast.
Haha thanks all. Yea its still outside. I got the STT up to 500 and I guess I was just expecting more fumes then what it put off. Pic from last night And another fire in the stove today. Notice that nice lack of smoke!!
You should also hook up the rear fan to get more heat out of that thing. I bet its cold outside there?
My neighbor has the cows. The mobile slaughter truck was there the other day. Half way would be in South Dakota someplace.
I did my 6 Break In fires outside last week on my new Buck 91, I hooked up 12' of 8" pipe to make a good Draft. stove still isn't installed, I have to go work in Brazil and the wife doesn't want to be left with a New stove she doesn't really understand. I tell her to go on "FHC" and ask questions and they'll hook you up still wont let me swap before I go...
What do you have to go to Brazil for work for? I always thought I was going to end up down there for work on the oil fields out at sea but never did.
I build Machines for a Big Bearing Company, Have to go down there to Refurbish one. I haven't been there yet. Ive been to Africa & China, Brazil & Russia are next... It gives me a Great Appreciation for the "USofA" The driving in China was the craziest thing I have experienced in my life, I didn't drive, but did ride to the plant everyday for 17 days, wishing I had a GoPro, Crazy Stuff
Oh yea! Craziest ride i ever did was entering Mozambique it was just all out craziness. I love traveling and seeing all the different cultures and ways of things. Have a safe trip and enjoy yourself.
