Did some splitting yesterday and noticed the pull cord handle flipping around more than usual? Stopped the machine and found 2 bolts under the engine were good and loose and pretty much all the other ones could have used a tightening.
Next time ya's go and use your splitter take 5min and give em a quick check.

Old pic but this splitter has been great since I bought it around 7 years ago.:coffee:

Yep, been there. Mine weren't falling out, but loose enough to make a bunch of stuff rattle and break. I had to throw about $100 at it.

I have settled into a routine with my equip. I clean after each use and inspect. The extra 5 min of just cleaning and checking has saved me from downtime

And after 4 hrs of split time I change the oil. It's cheap insurance and dosent take but a few extra min. which here lately has been quite often. Plus I get enjoyment cleaning and maintaining my stuff

    That splitter is a dog.

If the bolts are short, best to add a few lockwashers too, to help handle the vibration.

Personally, I'd also replace them unless the head markings indicate they are of decent quality. Cheap bolts stretch.

I'm a fan of the medium strength blue loctite  I don't do every bolt but if I find a loose one I'll add a drop of loctite before tightening it. Lots of vibration on a splitter when operating and when towing. If it vibrated loose once, it's likely to happen again. A $2 tube of insurance goes a long way.

I had a female Pyrenees who though the whole county was her territory, awesome dog, but she sure was independent. Had to have a slanted fence so she wouldn't climb out at night.
