Certainly seems as if that stove is going to be marvelous for a lot of people. A stove to heat a medium or large area easily at a very reasonable price. Bet you won't want to send your back to Woodstock when the time comes....

I guess you're right.. I wasn't really think about the other colors, but I will prolly paint a mark at the "1" hash. My installation seems to be sensitive right at that point, just an 1/8th of an inch makes a lot of difference right there.

28 hour mark. Stove top temp 130, top front of stove above door 150, small bed of coals, not much heat coming off stove. Threw three pieces of 2x4 and three pieces of the same oak blocks onto the coals, blew on it a little, and we're up and running again.

So, it was probably about a 24 hour burn, realistically .

At 24 hours last night it was still throwing off a lot of heat, more than we needed at that point. Maybe 26 -27?

I thought a spring loaded handle with little teeth like this Farmall tractor throttle... then you could put it back to the exact same spot every time... I'm sure Woodstock could have made something like this look old school which it already is...

Have to be pretty careful to not burn yourself with something like that. I guess they could design a modification that was further away from the stove. But, I repeat, I found the air pretty easy to adjust and set exactly as I wished on the Fireview. Never burned myself on that stove, either, 2004 through 2011.

When I had my Fireview I used gloves for a while to adjust the draft lever , but then slowly built up a nice Fireview heat callus on a few fingers and ditched the gloves:rofl:

I always used the tool that came with the stove to adjust the draft lever. I thought that's what it was for, that and opening the door latch?

I didn't want to mar the finish on the stove...so used my bare hand on the draft lever and my gloves of course to open the door... Now that Old Hippie has my Fireview , he has good looking stove handles

Brian, have you checked your stack on these low burns to see what kind of smoke emissions you're getting throughout the burn cycle and how clean it's burning?

Yes, no smoke visible whatsoever any time after engaging the cat.

Steve does that piece get real hot? If not crazy hot I would try a paint marker and do it yourself.. Hell if you lived closer I'd hook you up I have a few paint markers here..

Ray, I don't think it does get real hot. I'm not really sure. But I may try a dab or regular white paint, just to mark the "1" hash mark. All my settings are give or take a "smidge" from that.

Thanks and I hope you are having fun with the T-5! That is such a sweet heater!

Steve, it was Todd from Wisconsin who made that picture of the Fireview draft settings in case you want to contact him maybe to ask what paint he used. I've thought about doing that but it has never been a problem so just keep putting it off.

As for that handle, we are into our 7th year burning the Fireview and have not used it even one time! I see no need for it. As for the draft handle, it does get hot so you just sort of tap it rather than grab it.

Brian, you'll be getting a workout with that stove next week for sure with the cold that is coming our way. Now don't forget that you still have to sleep daily...

Good thing, because apparently I've been slacking in my Beta duties. I talked to Tom at Woodstock today and the subject of stove top temps and heating capacity came up while we were discussing the 24 hour burn. I told him we've had the stove top up a bit over 500 during a couple hotter burns.

He said, "500 degrees?!? Brian, you haven't even gotten that thing out of third gear!"

I fully agree with Tom. It won't be long before you need those temperatures too.

It's going to be interesting to see if with that big glass front you actually need to get the Steel over 500... I'm thinking I won't need to go over that with the PH...

Maybe someone who burned their PH last winter can comment on the PH heating all winter at just 500... I'm thinking the Steel will do it as well.. maybe a little more draft to just hold that temp...
