I found this pile of logs adjacent to the landing that was used to log out this property 2 or 3 yrs ago. I just purchased the property a couple of months ago. It should be a mix of oak, tulip, black birch, beech. I'm thinking that the tulip, birch and beech are probably rotten, but maybe there's some nice oak in there on top of the pile that's still good for burning.(?)

I ran into something similar. Half was good and the other half rotten. A video of you cutting would be cool.

If it has only laid that way for 3 years I bet over 70% will be nice and solid. Go find out.

Got into the pile a little today. Several red oaks up off the ground. The sapwood is punk but the heartwood perfectly preserved, and actually, already partially dry. I also got into some black birch. It was bone dry. I'll probably get 1/2 - 3/4 cord. Not bad at all.
