Geezum, in the past week the weather here in north central Mass has been all over the thermometer scale. What a PITA. It was 7'F one morning, with 45mph winds, so real feel was below zero. That continued for a few days and then it went into a period of 25'F days with mid teens at night. Nice, now we were finally out of shoulder season and burning 24X7.

...well.. not so fast, today we climb into the mid thirties, and I am now at 34'F at 7:25PM. But it will only drop a few more degrees and then warm up even more tomorrow.

Today I took the opportunity of a warm day to burn down the coal bed to almost complete ash. Emptied it and even let it get cool enough to clean the glass. Nice. ....but, then the temp started to drop and I realized, I'm going to need to build a fire, even if I have to let it go out.. or almost out tomorrow afternoon. In other words, IT'S STILL FLIPING SHOULDER SEASON! ...and I am getting grumpy about it!

It was also wet here today.. didn't really rain, didn't snow, but the town decided to sand/salt the roads anyway. So, the Electraglide is NOT going out anymore, unless we get some soaking rain to clean the roads. Doubtful, but who knows, shoulder season just doesn't want to go away.

Okay, I'll stop whining now.. please pass the cheese.

We're in the mid-to-upper 50s for the next four days. Then snow for the following two days. Then 100% chance of rain the day after the snow. Then back into the 30s and snow for three days after the rain.

Kind of a messed up 10 day forecast.

We are warm here too. I'm glad though... this weekend I need to replace a 47' long drain pipe in a very narrow crawl space. This sort of thing is pretty much the worst thing there is to do. Not looking forward to it.

It does have it's benefits, and I am probably burning less wood, but trying to get used to a new stove and all the cold starts etc.. it's a pain. I should be used to it by now. We are so all over the map in New England. Last year we have a major snowstorm on Halloween that dumped over a foot where I am. But years past I've still been riding the bikes till way into December and even January.

But this year, I'm more ready, I've got all of me C/S/S done for this years burning, and I'll maybe putter around and do some scavenging, but not much cutting till spring. Maybe a bit if the snow holds off. I don't really have the equipment to be logging and haulign out of the woods. (yet) Now that I'm retired I'll do more of that.

Well Seasoned, that I do not envy.

Ok, you win. I will stop complaining about getting stuck building a 10 x 10 deck with a 20' long ramp for my father in law, in December, by myself.

I don't mean to make your weekend to go from bad to worse, but Eastern PA has that warm front ending on Friday. Nothing but rain and snow all day Saturday and Sunday. High of 40, at most.

    Good luck.

Yup, put the Glide nicely to sleep, next to that AWESOME Valk. She is winter here, with 8" of snow on the ground and slop all over. I have the Wing tucked away until probably April. Been burning 24/7 for several weeks now. Man, winter is a PITA.

You're right. That's what's on the agenda for today. I go through this ritual every year.. pull everything out of the garage, the bikes, the snowblower and the gennie and then (just for fun) I get them all running all at the same time.. just so I can wake up anyone in town that is still sleeping. Then I push the bikes to the rear and put them gently to bed with the trickle charger and that ethanol treatment in their fuel systems. Then I put the Ariens and the gas gennie up front.

It's just a matter of time now for the snowfall and power outages to happen. Although the power companies have just come through an trimmed all the trees around my local lines, it seems like a branch falls anyplace in a 20 mile radius and everyone loses power in my small town.

    Thanks Waulie.
    You beat me to it.
I think it was 10 this morning @ 5-ish, but I didn't have my glasses on and only a small light in the kitchen.
    When I re-awoke @ 8, it was 14, so I'm basing the 10 on that.
Temps have been on a little rolly coaster fun run lately. It quit being SS here a while back.
I don't care what the calendar says, it's winter, I don't like cold, but I'm used to it.
    So, there's that.......

Yup, winter for sure. You're on the cold side (at least for the first part of winter) as the lake keeps us quite a bit warmer. It was only down in the 20s here last night. I did already see 3 degrees when I woke up one morning last week. That is crazy cold for being so close to the lakeshore in November!
