Hi. New member here. I found this place from a thread on another wood-related site. Looking forward to discussing firewood, home heating, trees, lumber, logging etc. It's a hobby that, according to my wife, has turned into an obsession. I tell her it's better than sinking all my money into bass boats or golf clubs, or sitting on my azz in front of the TV. Jack-of-all-trades, master of very little, although I'm pretty good at identifying tree species. Dad was a land surveyor and taught me well. So I'm a middle-aged dad, professional engineer, been cutting firewood since age 13 (over 30 years now). Also owned a bandsaw mill and have done some timber framing, woodworking is my other significant hobby. I am not picky about firewood and will take anything that burns. Heat my timber-frame home, pool and (future garage) with a 2004-vintage Central Boiler CL5648. About 12-15 cords a year. I'm just going to kick back, read through much of this site and enjoy being among fellow firewood hoarders.
Welcome to FHC Jon_E . Looks like your gonna fit right in with the self descriptions you just gave. I'd be interested in seeing pics of your timber frame home, it's something I have always dreamed of having but it just never came to be.
Hey Jon, welcome aboard. Woodworking is and has been my "hobby" (AKA...obsession) since I was a kid. I'm a little older than that now. I like to make things, including food. Lots of like-minded folks here. You've just found a great group of people here, and I'm sure someone else will be along to welcome you too. That's a lot of wood use......does it also heat your water? Ooooh, I like your avatar. Nice shed.
Welcome aboard! Most of us have an obsession as well. Great group of guys and gals here and sounds like you will fit right in.
You just described about everyone on this site in a nutshell! Self sufficient, jack of all trades - master of none, wood obsessed engineer here as well!
Pictures of the frame and framing crew. I'm the guy with the munchkin, all the way on the right. This was taken on Memorial Day 2005. I'll post a few more later.
Welcome to FHC Jon, Don't see much of that type framing around here, sorta like barn style framing one might say. Very neat and strong I would think.
Nice intro, Jon_E! Great pics, I love the timber frame style, too. Good start, post more pics, man!!! Glad to be able to welcome you to a big family, which recently welcomed me the same way! Eric VW
