At the beginning of the week we had almost 3 foot of snow on the ground. Almost all gone now. Cold and snow got me behind on firewoodin'. When I was a kid, my dad use to always call it "makin' wood." Good times.

That's the same thing my inlaws call it. Glad the snow is melting for ya, waiting for the mud to dry up a bit here to get back in the woods.

Yep, I split some wood this evening and the boys stacked. Every little bit adds up.

Interesting - hadn't thought about it, but we would say 'doing', as in "I'm going to be doing firewood this weekend".

It's muddy here but still lots of snow where I need to go. Snow is still 8' deep in the low spots to the bush. Going to melt fat though. The dogs are covered in mud all the time, and still expect to jump on my lap.

It's muddy here already on top of frozen ground. I have more than enough wood cut for 2 years with my inefficient fireplace, so that will be at least 3 year's worth in an epa compliant insert. I just need to get it out of the woods, and all cut and split to size, plus stacked in my yard. I may have to get creative with equipment to get it out of the woods. But I'll get it done.

I always heard it called " making firewood". That's what I call it at least. :)

Melting here too...... some flooding now. But 1'-2' still left in the woods. Quite a bit of rain fri into saturday, so flooding a real threat.

We have a few inches of snow in the woods and shady areas, but we lost 50% of our snow in 24 hours. It'll all be fine in the next 3 days. I'll be helping collect sap, tapping for maple syrup this weekend, so that means l get some fresh home made syrup this year.. With this temperature, sap will be flowing.

image.jpg No that is not me in the car. We had several issues yesterday with flooding and it's amazing people don't get the power of water

Kind of the reverse here in the swamp. Breakup means the end of hauling season. I have some high ground sites I work in the summer though.

I can actually see the top of my log pile. Still about 6-12" on the ground, but it's melting away pretty quick. Today my car showed 58. Not sure it was that high, but it was very warm. Going to be fighting to find enough time to get this load cut and split before softball hits full swing. Once softball is full motion, I'll have double headers on both Saturday and Sunday as I manage two teams.

Took the atv back to the creek today and also put out some minerals for the deer herd. In the open most of the snow is gone now but still plenty in the woods. I was also surprised to find the ground frozen hard. One spot usually gets muddy quick and this is a spot where I had plowed snow but it is still hard. It won't be long though.

I lost a dear friend in a flash flood. She was only 32. My husband had taken us to rivers many times for fishing and I wish she would have understood the power of the water in wall that came down and took her. He taught her to respect the current in the rivers...

A foot of snow on the ground here a week ago but I spent a few hours yesterday and today getting my car out of some nasty mud. If I hadn't backed off quick it would have been high centered but even so it was a chore to get it moved 40 feet to a hard surface. 1/2 inch thick OSB can work wonders if you don't mind losing it to further use. I used scrap OSB, a car jack and a nice 2x12 about 4 feet long. The 2x12 gave my jack something to keep it from sinking into the mud and let me get the OSB under the tires. A few feet at a time and I managed to get out but it was slow going. By tomorrow I expect to have no trouble at all. Once the ground really dries out from the winter moisture it never gets that muddy again all summer. There is something about the first thaw that makes for really tough mud for a few days.
