No I think they're calling customer service and using the zip codes where the stove is on sale for $649 but customer service is not honoring that sale price as they did in the past. I'm not sure of the details, the thread is titled
Englander 30-NCH now on sale $649

I would just order online , not call them. So it should work.

I was concerned about this last year too. Ordered online, and once the order went through, I was still concerned.
Once I got a tracking number, all was gooder.

Would it be safe to assume that the 30 will provide as much heat as my old vc defiant? That may sound silly, but this old smoke dragon will roast me out of here on all but the coldest days. My house is old and drafty so it takes a pretty good heat output to keep it warm. How about wood usage? I've gone through about 5 cord this year. If I could get that down to 3 then I'm good right now with my the year stash.

Pyro, I dont have the NC30 but I do have a big steel catalyst stove of similar size.

I too have a big house with VERY LITTLE insulation in it. It takes a good amount of heat to keep me warm. The stove can heat about half my 2500 square ft to anywhere from overheated in stove room to livable at night in the low 60s in our far bedroom.

I have burned about 3 cords in my stove this year and really can't burn that much more without extending the season. Or running it wide open on days its not needed. There just that efficient on wood. Run it about wide open at night and plenty of coals in mourning run hard all day and coals in afternoon and then a quick hot load then set it for the night. The way I understand it the NC30 should about do this as well. The difference for me is in shoulder season I can load my stove up with the cat and get 20 hours or so of heat output on a slow burn.

BrowningBAR might be able to answer better.
I've got a small 1250 ft. ranch (and well documented as a sieve/colander), and the stove will keep most of the house above 70 quite easily down to about 10 deg., then it can't.
Below zero, ain't happening unless I run it full bore. Haven't really done that yet.....on purpose.
It's got a bigger firebox than my old stove, and I'm using a similar amount of wood in colder temps than I've seen since moving here.......but also using the DV heater below zero, so very difficult to compare. It's 20 out right now, the house was 69 a few minutes ago, and I put one Maple split on top of a large coal bed.
We're up closer to 70 now.
The stove is more controllable than I thought it would be, but once the secondaries kick in, it wants to run, although not out of control.
I just went outside and the stack is nothing but heat waves, with the stove running at 310 and full air.

Ok gift cards are ordered from Raise.com. I missed out on some at 9%. Those things dissapper under your eyes. But I got several that range from 8-9% discount.

Need to wait for the card info to show up to place my order but I'm all in now. I have an NC30 in my sights.

The wife and I were playing around with placement this mourning. I have a mock up cardboard template of the stove and was placing it in the room and showing how big the hearth will beo_O. And a talking g about how we want the stonework to look on the wall behind it.

I need to do my research on a ceiling support box install now.

    Flat ceiling or cathedral?
Do you have a brand preference for pipe, etc.?

Its a flat ceiling 8foot tall. I will go through ceiling I guess between the rafters and through about 4 foot of attic then out the roof.

As far as pipe. I want something safe. But I dont need the cadillac either.

I read the specs on DuraVent from HD. I like the 1000F spec and the 30 mons or whatever at 1400F and then like 10 mins at 2000F that sounds safe. Not sure of this is a standard spec or not? If I get something that hot something is majorly wrong. I am holding the air can shut it down before that would happen. Install a keep damper for safety maybe then u know it can be tames if need be.

Well, I did it. Hope this works out. I really wanted a nicer stove (woodstock, or Jotul were on the list), but everyone seems so happy with the 30, and the price can't be beat. I suppose this will do fine for a few years and I could always replace it later. I really like a cast iron stove, but I'll be sure to report how my first adventure into budget steel works. I'm definitely on a budget so that should be good fit.

I came close to buying a high dollar stove and having used the 30 for a season, I'm really glad I didn't. This thing is a heat machine. As far as wood consumption goes, I don't know exactly how much less I've used, but it's been cut by at least a third and probably closer to half.

I used the Supervent from Menard's (you can buy it elsewhere), as that was the cheapest source I found. All Class A has to meet a specific minimum. Some are built with "better" material, but they all have to meet the minimum at least.
The outside of the Supervent seems to dent fairly easily, but that only matters before it gets installed, as I doubt it'll get dented after that. One of my 3' sections was slightly dented at the point where the next piece would attach, so I used that outside. No problem.
I found out that it's best to use everything from the same manufacturer. Goes together gooder.
I didn't need the stove adapter, but I did use the suggested piece at the ceiling support box.
I can send a link, if you'd like.

Sure. We dont have a maynard's within 1000 miles of here but they ship I guess??

So do these support boxes fit between your ceiling joists without having to box and rework them?

You'll need to frame in the appropriate opening with the required 2" ctc.
If I remember correctly, the 6" setup needed 12 and an 1/8" square opening (the 6" Class A is 8" OD, then add 2" all around for the 12"). The tabs (this may vary depending on the CSB) get attached to that with screws or nails (I'd suggest screws).
Once the opening is framed, the rest goes together pretty quickly. Although not absolutely needed, a second person would be helpful. I did mine myself, and I have crappy knees.
How's the access to that part of your attic?
Don't forget the attic insulation shield. If you get a "kit", it'll more than likely be included.
    Lowes also sells the Supervent.
Hart & Cooley comes in the exact same box, and that was available from a local HVAC/plumbing supply (and other places), although not all of those places will sell to the general public.

I have looked at lowes. Considering them. There is no HD local.

I chose the spot for ease of access to attic and aesthetics in the room.

I can walk right to the spot in the attic. I need to check it out as it will fall close to a portion of the roof where the pitch changes. I need to make sure that I can get in a flat spot on the roof. Also need to make sure its not a roof like coming into another roof line....so its not in the mini pitch change area.

I am ok if I have to use a few joints to jog off center of the pipe center line to get to the box.

They offer % back on purchases from stores. The stores advertise through them, you get a few bucks back, and websites bring in more customers for the stores, neat deal.....

I earned several hundred dollars back during our remodel last year (I bought appliances w 6% at sears :) ) You do not buy at the sites, but go there first and they link you back to Sears, Home Depot, or whatever store you are looking at. Then, they automatically deposit the $$ to my paypal a few weeks later.

I bought my Drolet from Northern Tool, $84 cash into my paypal from ebates

Well, he can get another 10% off............... HD and Lowes honor eachothers coupons as well as other big box store coupons.

Lowes offers "moving coupons" ongoing. You can sign up online but it takes a few days to get it by email. Easiest would be go to US Post Office and pick up and change of address envelope, there is usually one in there :)
