After climing upon my wood pile to see the amount of leaves and walnuts jammed all between the logs. I can't leave them this way, and I have a couple hundred hours to kill, so why not. I needed to cut much of the stuff down in length, and have been doing so as I need wood. Guess I can kill two birds with one "of fudge". This is a reason to top cover all the time. I will be from here on out.
Pin oak, poplar, walnut and pine within blowing/dropping distance. The dang walnuts seem to be the biggest offenders. They are soaking wet and find their way into deep spots. I wish I had a couple hundred hours.
Thought that may have been a slight exaggeration. I get a bunch of stuff on/in mine too, but it comes off when I move it to the shed. I don't feel like covering a couple rows of wood that are each 112' long. I know some here do it, though.
Never bothered me.Just grab the wood for each day's use & the leaves, twigs, walnut husks etc fall off.About every 2-3 years I gather the walnuts for myself, but this year & last I let the squirrels help themselves. After late October I keep a couple day's worth in the garage at all times.Plus have almost 2 cords under a heavy duty tarp year round for when the heavy rain/snow/ice comes.Remaining 2+ cords are always uncovered. About 9 cords at parents property stacked between the trees that are always uncovered & another 4 that fills the old ramshackle shed.
Ive got a squirrel nest in one of my stacks. When I walk up to it, they pop out and into a tree yelling at me. Ill have to get a video.
The squirrels here do that too they are funny, they chew you out when you are around them Even when their way up in a tree
I'm betting those walnuts still have the outside husks on? If so, they should be nice and black. Wear rubber gloves! Those buggers will stain everything. Sometimes that is good if you want to stain some wood but....
